My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

WALKER is a Chocolate Lab/Bully mix male who was rescued from deplorable conditions with fly bites on his ears. He was highly heartworm positive due to the fact that his previous owner left him outside and did not provide heartworm prevention. Walker was treated for the fly bites and underwent the treatment for heartworm elimination. He is now heartworm negative, happy and healthy and enjoying his life and freedom outside a disgusting outdoor pen and inside a foster home. He thinks he's a big puppy and wants to play with other dogs but he does not get along with every male dog he meets, especially if that male dog growls at him or tries to show dominance. For that reason, we think he would be best in a home with a female dog or as an only dog. He is curious about cats and will chase them and we are not certain of what he might do if he actually caught up with one so, for that reason, we think a cat free home might be best. He is gentle with people. He seems shy at first around children and adult strangers and may give out a low, tentative bark, but he is very friendly and affectionate once you indicate the person is safe and once he has a chance to get to know them. He loves to play tug and keep away with rope toys. He loves to give kisses. The only things he hates are flies (and maybe male dogs who growl at him)! He wants to please his humans and seems eager to learn and easy to train. He is crate trained and house trained. He is 5 to 6 years old and weighs 60 pounds. He is current on vaccinations and neutered. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Walker if it means he will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue to cover at least some of the cost of the veterinary care he has received.
