Hey, it's me again -- Tyro. Just wanted to reach out to everyone with the latest on what's been happening in my "happy world". I have started to do something that my foster mom calls "the zoomies". This happens when I'm playing -- usually with the Lab next door. We start out doing regular "guy stuff", but then I just get soooooo happy that I start to run around both of the yards. I'm not being chased, and I'm not chasing anything -- I just do it for the pure joy of it.
It makes my Lab buddy stop and stare, and it makes my foster mom laugh. I guess I'm laughing, too. Life is good!!!

Note from Bonnie:

I was a bit worried about Tyro because he'd never been properly socialized, and he didn't seem to have that special BC spark. But, now that he's completely relaxed here, he's showing a pure joyfulness that is very endearing. Just watching him and his body language makes me think of the Pharrell Williams song, "Happy".

My name is Tyro and I'm in a foster home being cared for by my foster mom who is a volunteer with Midwest Border Collie Rescue.

This place is great! I'm getting a lot of play time and am learning some new stuff. Did you know that if you come flying when your name is called and sit, you get a treat? Neither did I, but it happens when my foster mom yells out "Tyro, come!" and I drop whatever I'm doing, run to her and plop my butt down. Pretty cool, hey? Today I got some fish treats that just about made my eyes pop out of my head. I'll probably dream about them tonight.

I enjoy walking on a long line and love to explore. We play the "calling game" while doing that, too. And, we have another game when I'm trying to go really fast and bring the foster mom with me. When I do that, she stops and waits for me to come back to her and gives me a treat when I do. I'm so loving that game, too. I heard her say that she was trying to teach me not to pull. Sometimes that is easier said than done.

I get a little nervous when my foster mom takes me to new places that I don't know, but when she tells me it's okay and gives me a treat, I relax a little. I have heard her tell people that I'm unsure of what to do because I was never "socialized" . No kidding!!

Guess the best way to describe myself is that I'm pretty happy-go-lucky, but at the same time I'm kind of a lonely guy. More than once, my foster mom has told me to quit giving her the sad eye. But, I can't help it. I've never been a real part of any family because I was kept kenneled outside and kind of left to entertain myself. I still like to play with toys on my own, but am sooooooo loving having a human to play with me or to just hang out with me. My foster mom is teaching me to bring a toy back to her and drop it for a treat. Then, she'll pick up the toy and throw it for me again and again. WOW, it's like the best thing!

That's all for now, folks! I've had a busy morning and am going to get some relaxation in my crate now -- maybe I'll dream about having a "furever" home.

From Bonnie: Tyro is progressing well. He is very sweet natured and trying hard to figure out how he is suppose to behave. He's very motivated with both treats and toys which makes training with him a lot of fun. And, when he's in "goofy mode", he's really a hoot!!!
Tyro's activity level is "Companion".

This is Tyro, a 2 1/2 year old smooth coat male Border Collie. Ty is neutered, weighs approximately 50 pounds and stands over 21" at the withers. He's a tall, lean, lengthy boy with a sweet disposition and happy-go-lucky attitude. He is up-to-date on all vaccinations and vet work, and has been given a clean bill of health.

Tyro was relinquished by a family that no longer had any time for him. The move from Indiana to northeastern Illinois was hard on him, but he is coming around and his happy nature has re-surfaced. He's full of energy and likes to play, but he also has a great "off switch" and is excellent when crated and when riding in the car. He knows a few basic commands and is learning leash manners. He loves to scoot up next to you for human contact and loves to be petted.

Ty's history shows that he is not good with cats, but is okay with other dogs.

More updates to follow. For further information on this wonderful lad, go to www.mwbcr.org or contact Bonnie at graciesma@comcast.net
