Templeton is quite the patriot and would love to let Freedom reign! Out of all of the dogs that FSSR has saved...he has been with us the longest. He came to us from Indiana in the year 2006! We never expected him to live out his life here....not a sweet boy like him. But he got over-looked, and then followed by many more, that have gone home way before him. Templeton is not that frisky pup that he was....but has turned into a fine man that simply enjoys long walks and being outside. He loves much, in fact, that he jumps up on them to greet them and gives them a kiss. A lot of people misunderstand this greeting and try to push him down or away. He is only excited to meet you and say 'Hello.....Are YOU, finally, the one?'. Templeton has had many female kennel-mates, over the years, and has enjoyed the company of all! He is such a 'stand- up guy', being here for so long and having such a happy attitude.....he just needs a 'stand- up human' to guide him. He is a volunteer favorite (how could he not be? He is a FSSR icon) and loves toys, treats, and doing tricks for you. He is excellent on the leash....conditioned by many walks with all of our volunteers that love him. Transitioning into a home might be strange, for him at first, but he is easy-going......and has wanted a home for a very long time. Simply stated.....he has done his time- for absolutely no crime. Templeton still waits for a day when he has a human to love, honor, and cherish. He loves to walk with you....and even 'struts', because he is so over-joyed, that you took him for one. A simple, humble wish..........for a thrown away and over-looked boy that soooooooo desires to be loved, comforted, and content (on a big dog pillow). Templeton would love to finally celebrate Freedom and Independence........ Best kiss you will ever get! He says 'Please come meet me and we can celebrate The Red, White, and Woo!'

About Free Spirit Siberian Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Free Spirit Siberian Rescue has been helping homeless Huskies and Husky mixes since 1999. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) no-kill rescue located in northern Illinois, dedicated to placing our dogs in permanent, loving homes. By adopting a homeless pet, you will be giving two animals--the one you adopt and the other that will have a place available at our rescue--a second chance at life.

We operate solely from donations and are volunteer driven. Please mail all donations to Free Spirit Siberian Rescue
P.O. Box 626
Harvard, IL 60033

Volunteers are always needed and welcomed. Please visit our website for more information about how you can help.

Our Adoption Process...

We review and pre-screen applications in the order they are received. If we have any immediate questions or concerns, we contact you by email. If the application looks good on paper, we have one of our Adoption Coordinators call for a phone interview. We'll check references (including landlord and vet if appropriate). Depending on the responsiveness of the references, this step can take some time. Our adoption screening process allows us to get to know you and your family, so that we can make informed suggestions about dogs that would best suit your personality, lifestyle, and household (including other adults, kids, current dogs, and cats).

If you are approved for adoption, we'll then arrange a time for you to come to the rescue and meet some of the rescue dogs. Because we are an all volunteer run organization, we need to schedule a time for you to visit the rescue. Appointment times are limited and are reserved for individuals/families who have been approved for adoption. We require all household members, including current dogs, to be present at the appointment. The meet and greet helps to ensure that the dog is a good match for your family in general and any current dog(s) in particular. Current dogs/cats must be spayed/neutered, up to date on all vaccines, on Heartworm prevention medication, and kept inside as indoor family members (per the terms and conditions of our Adoption Contract).

We cannot hold dogs and cannot guarantee that a particular dog will still be available at the time of the appointment. We also suggest that you review our website ( for the most current information and do your best to identify a few dogs that you may be interested in. Additionally, if you can explain why you've selected them that also helps us to identify the characteristics that are most important to you which will assist us in making a better match between you and a potential dog.

If an adoption match is made, you should be prepared to provide a deposit by cash or check. A minimum of ½ of the adoption fee is required. Note that adoption fees vary by age of the dog. Please visit our website for a detailed scale and information about what the adoption fee covers.

You will then schedule a delivery date. The dog will be groomed prior to going home and delivered at a later scheduled date with all medical records. Dogs will not be delivered the same day as the adoption appointment. We must transport the dog to you in order to do a home inspection at the time of delivery.

If you meet the above requirements with your current dog/cat, are over 21, within a four-hour drive of Harvard, IL and are interested in adopting through us, please fill out an application at

If you have any additional questions, please contact us at

We look forward to receiving your application.
