Well Hi there. My name is Lewis, and I’m pleased to meet you. I’m one of the smallest guys here at NBS, and am a 3 year old neutered male Poodle/Maltese mix like my adoptable brother, Clark. We came to the kind folks at NBS Animal Rescue when we I were found by a kind Animal Control Officer as strays. We were so horribly matted, malnourished, and scared...but the kind volunteers at NBS Animal Rescue helped make us more comfortable, gave us great food and fresh water, and ensured proper veterinary care. We also are lucky a warm, loving, and patient foster home for us to stay in.
Unfortunately, I do I have a leg injury that was never taken care of. It requires surgery to fix it so that I can be comfortable and be able to romp and play perfectly. Other than my upcoming surgery, I’m a healthy boy! I could stand to gain some weight…so if you’ve got some tasty treats, that would be a really nice way to help me warm up to you. I’m very shy because of my past, thanks for understanding that I don’t mean to be a nervous nelly. Treats and kinds words sure do help. I am looking for a home that is quiet, calm, and has a regular routine. I most likely will need a fenced yard, as I've never been on a leash before and it scares pretty badly. Also, I am really afraid of sudden movements and cower from loud noises. Most likely, I’ll a home with out kids, or very gentle kids 12 and up. Don't get me wrong, I'm a gentle and sweet fella...I just have had such bad experiences with people in my past and that will take time to overcome. I really need to find a home that will love me and help me to learn that not all humans are there to hurt me.
I’m a gentle guy, but I am finally learning to “play”. I never really had that opportunity before. Little tennis balls and rope toys are fun, but my favorite thing ever is squeaky stuffed animals. As soon as I find one, I sneak off with it to my doggy bed, and lay one it so my brother can’t steal it. (siblings, ugh!) My adoption fee is $250.00 and includes DHPP vaccine, bordatella vaccine, De-worming, spay/neuter surgery, rabies vaccine, heartworm test, heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative, microchip insertion, bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, leash and collar and one week's worth of food.

You can fill out a simple online adoption application at www.nbsar.org and we will start processing your application right away! We do require that persons interested in meeting me apply online and be approved as an adopter first so please visit our website and submit your application today!
Our adoption process requires that any pet in your household be current on it's vaccinations and heartworm preventative as well as spayed/neutered unless there is a documented medical reason on file with your veterinarian. Dogs must be current on DHLPP, Rabies, and Heartworm Preventative, cats must be current on Distemper, Rabies, and Heartworm Preventative at the time of application.
