Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi, I'm JoJo. I came from Herrin, Illinois where animal control impounded me when my owners went on vacation and left me tied up in the yard without food or water. My owners didn't take very good care of me…. I was all matted and full of ticks and fleas, and worse, I had heartworms because they didn't give me a monthly heartworm preventative. Chicagoland Dog Rescue said they would take me and get help me get well. I had to get some really painful shots and then I had to keep quiet for a month so the heartworms didn't go to my lungs when they were dying. I didn't like that at all because I am still a puppy and have lots of energy! I'm all better now and looking for a forever home. I like it in my foster home but my foster mom said I have to find a new home so she can help save some other dogs.
The shelter in Herrin called me a Newfoundland mix, but I am only 50 pounds, so if I am a newfie mix, I must be mixed with something smaller. Some people think I have golden retriever in me. Others have said shepherd and lab. All I know is that I have very soft fur that will need some brushing and maintenance to keep me looking by best!
I'm in a foster home with four other dogs. I get along OK with them, but if one of them gets aggressive with me, I will defend myself. (I'm not a submissive dog). I'm hoping to find a home where I won't be left crated all day. I like to play and be with my person. I like to play fetch and I will even bring the toy back to you (most of the time). I also love belly rubs and walks. I haven't been around kids yet but my foster mom thinks I would be better with older kids because I might knock down little kids when I play. I have been to two of CDR's training classes and did very well. CDR training classes are included in my adoption fee, so I will learn all the good habits that will make me a great pet.
You can also fill out an application online to get things started or attend an adoption event!
XOXO, JoJo
