Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sputnik means “fellow traveler” and that is exactly what Sputnik wants to be: your fellow traveler! Vizsla and Labrador characteristics make him an easygoing companion. Sputnik is around 3 years old, 45 pounds, house trained, and great with other dogs and cats.
Sputnik is a sensitive and loving dog, laid back and easily trainable, especially with treats! He is housebroken and knows quite a few commands, e.g. sit, down, leave it, shake, touch, and he is working hard on his recall! Sputnik does well on the leash and enjoys long walks with his humans. Daily exercise will do much to keep him in good spirits so a backyard for some games of fetch would be great. However, he is an inside only dog who does not need to be crated. He is happiest when he is with his people and accompanying them wherever they go is his biggest joy. Car rides, walks, fairs, and stores – he takes it all in stride. He will not say “no” to the dog park either: he gets along with everybody, be it people or dogs. Did I mention that he adores soft squeaky toys?
Sputnik’s special gift is that he is bilingual: he can bark like a lab and like a hound! However, he will only use his voice to alert when someone unfamiliar approaches the house; otherwise he is the quiet type. He is also a good listener and understands German and English!
Sputnik is a submissive and sweet dog but has had some mixed experiences in his early life. He is very good with cats and fine with other dogs, but unfamiliar situations, people, very loud voices, and quick hand movements may scare him a bit. However, he adjusts quickly if given the right cues and encouragement. Due to his loving and sensitive Vizsla nature he may suffer if left alone all day. For that reason, Sputnik would do best in a home with gentle, active and knowledgeable adopters who are familiar with positive reinforcement and who are willing and able to spend time with him. He probably would also be a good fit for a family who loves the outdoors and has school age children who are familiar and comfortable with dogs. He probably would enjoy a canine companion of similar stature and energy., but this is not required.
If you are looking for a loyal and loving companion who is easy to live with then Sputnik will be your satellite!
He Is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Sputnik is currently fostered in Huntsville, Alabama but is not picky about where he ends up as long as he is loved.
