My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There was a lot of conversation on what mix of breeds Prairie is. The shelter vets immediately said Bearded Collie...but mixed with what? The town vets came up with a Bearded Collie/Jack Russell mix. This was due to his beautiful markings that say Jack with that sweet and engaging Terrier energy. Prairie also has the beauty and loyalty (as well as general look) of the majestic Bearded Collie.

Prairie weighs just about 45 lbs (a perfect medium size to love running, hiking and winter snowshoeing in the Colorado mountains) and is just about 2 years old... and is definitely one of the cutest dogs around! His markings are so striking and his soft white hair is so bright against his charcoal markings.
It seems that Prairie has been searching his entire life for a family to love him...he's just never had the good luck for that to happen. A Farfel's rescuer recognized the goodness and wonderful potential that is living inside of this young dog. We are committed to finding a home for Prairie that is very loving with clear and consistent boundaries. He wants to please more than anything...and is so smart that he has the ability to pick up concepts quickly - he just needs to understand what is being asked of him. His family will be one with that is overflowing with love for this dog and can understand that he's a guy who is on his journey learning about the world. This would be a perfect time to introduce Prairie to positive reinforcement obedience class. He's a blank slate just waiting to be taught the skills of excellent behavior out in the community. Prairie will most likely be just a bit shy initially...completely understandable after the challenges of his short life. We've just gotten a new foster report on Prairie that we want to share:

We've fallen in love with Prairie! He's sweet, kind, cuddly and desires to be the best behaved guy on the block! He gets along perfectly with both my dog and cat as well as my 12-year old daughter. We've even spoken about adopting him...he's that wonderful! We've decided we just don't have the budget for another dog but are determined to help find Prairie the best home ever! Whoever has the great fortune to have Prairie join their family is truly getting a gem! We took him on a long hike today and he was so joyful and perfect with every dog (he's also great with cats) and human that we passed. He can go anywhere with the confidence that he'll always be sweet and well-behaved.
Once Prairie bonds, there is nothing in the world that will pull him away from his person or family. His love and gratitude boils over when he knows he's safe in expressing himself. Prairie would be so happy with a family that included him on hikes, camping and backpacking trips or just a walk around the neighborhood. He would also enjoy friendships with other sweet dogs...he loves to play and cuddle with his canine friends. Prairie will never disappoint because once he understood what is expected of him, no one will ever try harder.
We'd like Prairie's family to have the ability to spend good parts of their day with him. He has such great skills that he can be taken along or just hang out on the couch with his favorite people. He'd be a natural to bring along to any dog-friendly activities. he's so pleasant and engaging!

Prairie is being fostered in Colorado. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested in this kind and devoted companion, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
