My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Julia is a wonderful family pet. She loves children especially. She often acts like an older dog, but she'll remind you quickly that she's still a puppy and she would do well with some further obedience training. She is an intelligent dog that is very willing to please so will learn quickly. She is a great size at approximately 10 months to a year old and currently weighs 25 lbs.

Here is what else her foster family had to say:

Julia loves affection. She's content to sit in your lap with her head on your shoulder for a hug. She doesn't like the feel of grass under her feet. It's fine for when she has to do her business, but once she's done, she'll pull you hard toward the sidewalk. Julia tends to rip apart most chew toys, and any type of dog plushie toy has no chance around her. She definitely needs tough, strong toys for her puppy nibbling! Julia is very happy and silly and friendly. She's a really sweet girl.

Julia loves people, especially children. She never jumps on children or people we meet on our walks, but greets them quietly and gently with sniffs. Julia has only growled during play, when we play 'fetch', or when I try to take a toy from her. When corrected--I say, "ahah!" or "No!", Julia will quickly drop the toy and roll to show me her belly. She needs to be corrected immediately when she shows this behaviour. She's quickly learning that toys are to be shared, and she'll often drop them now before I have to tell her to. Julia has shown no shyness. She's just very quiet and timidly curious when meeting people.

Julia is usually respectful of my small, older dog, although when she gets in her playful mood, she will chase my dog because she's trying to play with her. My dog doesn't understand that, so she runs away, scared. Julia stops chasing quickly when I correct her. Julia would do wonderfully in a home with another dog, but it would have to be a larger dog, her size or bigger, and her age or equally playful.

Julia is very curious about my cat, but is very respectful and wary around him, because he's grumpy and hisses/arches his back when she tries to sniff him. She tries to sniff and say hello gently, but she knows to keep her distance and now mostly ignores the cat. She's never tries to chase the cat. Julia greets strange dogs nicely. She just quietly sniffs them, with no jumping up or aggression that many puppies have.

I've rarely left Julia alone, but she is definitely not a fan of being crated and will bark in the crate. When left out on her own, she is fine. She didn't get into anything but I only left her for a half hour so I can't say how she would be if left longer. Julia is curious about noises, but she's never shown fear. She'll often run to the window with her ears forward to see what it is. She is generally very quiet in the home.

Julia loves to cuddle. She's very much a couch/lap dog. She loves to sleep in my bed with me. She loves to play "chase the ball and almost bring it back". She's learning to fetch and loves to chew on her toys. Julia loves to go for runs, and she'd be a great dog for a runner/jogger.

Julia is very uninterested in family mealtime. She never begs, and calmly lies down and ignores that we're eating. She is very treat/food motivated, and she sniffs the air constantly when I'm cooking, but she's never tried to counter surf or get into the garbage. Julia has also never chewed anything she shouldn't have, and is content with her own chew toys. Julia came to us knowing 'come', 'sit' and 'lie down', but the latter two are hit and miss.

Julia has never had an accident in the house, and seems to have come to us fully house trained. She goes to the door and waits, or paws/scratches at it when she needs to go out. She can go a full 8-10 hours at night without an accident.

Julia is extremely affectionate and seems to really need and thrive on that affection. I would love for Julia to go to a family with older, school aged kids. I'd love for her to go to an active family, who would take her for long walks, hikes, runs or to the beach, but even a big yard that she can run in would be fine for her. Julia is very eager to please, and just loves affection, snuggles and cuddles, so a family who's going to let her be a member and not just a 'pet' would be perfect. Julia lies very nicely on a couch and in bed with her people, and she loves to be close to them. Julia would do best in a home where she could sleep with her people and not in a crate.

If you think Julia would be a good choice for your family, please submit an application for consideration.
