My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a black velvet female chinchilla looking for her new home. Her name is Maddie. Maddie is 5 years old and is special needs.

Maddie is a sweet girl. She’s pretty laid back for a chinchilla, and can often be found lounging somewhere in her cage. She does great with being handled and petted. She does not bite.

Maddie is special needs in that she occasionally will self-mutilate. This would be similar to a human that “cuts,” in that she will chew the fur under one of her arms until she causes a wound. She simply requires a vet visit for antibiotics and possibly stitches, if the wound is bad enough. The vet does not know why she does this, but this occurs a few times per year. Other than this, she is your average chinchilla. She will come with all of her vet records.

She has gotten along with other chinchillas in the past, though we make no guarantees that she will get along with your chinchilla.

Maddie’s calm personality would make her a good “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had one before, as long as the home is prepared for the potential vet bills that may come with her.

As with all of our chinchillas/rescues, Maddie will come with 2 pounds of food to start you out (Mazuri pellets), a baggy of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet.
She will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell everything from hammocks to cages and everything in between – anything you could possibly need or want for your new chinchilla.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

Maddie is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324).

The adoption fee for Maddie is $75
