My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Russell as written by his foster mom …. Russell is about 4 years old and 37 pounds and is the BEST dog that we have ever had in the 14 years that we have been fostering. He has been with us for about 6 months and it breaks my heart to let him go but we just have too many. He had a very rough life on the streets before we rescued him. We know that he was a long time stray who nobody wanted there but somehow he survived. He looks like a spaniel or border collie mix. His coat is beautiful and the thickest that I have ever seen. We like the long scruffy look but as it has come in more it needs a lot of upkeep and grooming. We didn’t want to have it cut but that would also be an option. Out of curiosity we ran a DNA on him. We thought a bigger spaniel and maybe English Sheepdog. In our experience these DNA tests are for entertainment more than anything else and this one did not let us down. He came back as Chihuahua/American Cocker spaniel mixed with a mixed breed dog of maybe Lowchen and English Cocker spaniel and other breeds. Whatever he is, Russell is very unusual. His temperament is awesome. He has never growled or complained despite his health issues from his rough life. When we found him he could barely see due to cataracts. An amazing eye Dr removed those and implanted a lens in one of his eyes to enable him to see well. The other eye was too scarred probably from trauma but he can see partially out of that one too. He has a broken pelvis and broken front leg both of which have healed on their own and don’t seem to bother him. His coat was bad and he had mange which he is now over. He has some BBs throughout his body and is somewhat deaf and a few of his teeth are broken off from eating rocks or whatever he could find out there. When found he had heartworms which we have been treating and we expect him to test negative in a few months. He is great with people and other dogs. He is not tested around cats so I am not sure about those. Our young grandson comes over and he does not bother him. As time has gone on he has become more active and plays with the other dogs and gambols almost like a lamb. Russell is goofy and a lot of fun and needs a home where his people have more time to devote to him than we do. Despite all that he has been through, all this gentle soul wants is to be with you. If you think you might be the one please email his foster mom at fudgiesmom2@aol.com. Thanks.
