My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

WALLY is an 8 year old neutered yellow male Lab that weighs 103 pounds (should lose about 10 lbs.). He may be 8 years old but don't let that fool you. He has the energy of a puppy and loves to talk to his humans. Wally knows some commands, is house trained, takes treats gently, and is good with other dogs. He's approved for kids aged 10+.

Update (10/5): Wally knows a number of commands – “sit”, “wait,” “come”, and “paw” and “high five”. He’s a little slow on “down” but it’s worth the wait – you get the “full monty” with Wally rolling onto his back to get a belly rub. We’re working on his leash manners – he’ll pull you along in his eagerness to meet people. But then he’ll sit quietly and patiently while you speak with that person.

With his calm and easy-going manner, Wally would be fine in a home with children (over 10) or other dogs. (And probably cats as well.) He’d also be ideal for a more active family – one that would take him on long walks so he’d drop about 10-15 lbs. (Couldn’t we all!) Is your heart and home big enough to take in Wally?

Update (10/2): Need someone to shag fly balls or be a ball boy at your tennis game? Looking for an entry to next year’s Preakness? Need some Lab kisses? Then Wally is your guy.

Wally has a handsome blocky head that he uses to rub along your leg or burrow into your side when you’re sitting. He’s a natural at fetch. Indeed, he enjoys it so much that he’ll toss his rawhide chip into the air a few times just for the sheer pleasure of catching it, before settling down for a good chew.

Wally is very placid and has been a perfect gentleman at home. He doesn’t need to be crated because doesn’t get into trouble while you’re away. (And he’d pretty much completely fill even a large dog crate!) He loves to meet new people and other dogs, and is unfazed by the antics of small, hyperactive dogs. He wants to meet cats encountered on our walks and seems disappointed when they don’t respond to his overtures, but he makes no effort to chase them. He has no problems negotiating stairs, although due to his size he needs to walk on a bit of a diagonal when going down stairs.
