My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lil' Girl will make a lovely companion dog and deserves a home that really wants a dog that is part of everything that is happening in the home. She is really such a sweet and gentle little soul. She is a puppy so will need some further training but overall she is very well behaved and a joy to have in the home. She loves everyone and is clean and quiet. A wonderful family pet. Lil Girl is approximately 8 - 10 months old.

Here is what else her foster family had to say:

Lil' Girl is just the sweetest, gentlest little girl who instantly melts the heart of everyone who meets her. She looks at you with those big brown eyes as if she understands the whole world. She wants to hug you when you come home and when you get up in the morning. If we didn't already have our own two I think she would be staying at our house! She follows you all over the house and looks at you as if she knows what you are talking about.

On the second day she was here, she came up to where I was sitting and just looked at me. I said, OK come up then and she jumped into my lap and put her head on my shoulder. She is a cuddle pup! So sweet. She sleeps in lots of funny positions and makes all kinds of sounds that keep us in stitches, whether its snorting as she checks out the yard or snoring while she is sleeping.

She is a young dog, about a year old who still explores the world with her mouth and pearly white teeth. She wants to play with her people, her toys, anything she can turn into her toy and any other animals. I think she is about as big as she is going to get- such a lovely and good looking dog.

Lil' Girl is good with everybody. She is not at all shy. She has met a number of dogs and gets along with all of them but usually finds a special mate who she wants to share some playtime. Lil' Girl is interested in our cat but not a problem. In fact, I think they quite like each other. We have two dogs of our own and so we have left them together when we go out with Lil' Girl in her crate. She settles nicely and seems calm/not stressed when we return. She has not demonstrated any fears. Her favourite things to do are cuddle and play. She loves soft toys and chew sticks. She is happy to play with a towel or mat and likes to bury herself in them. Lil' Girl is very quiet. You can hardly hear her moving around and the only barks we have heard is when she bounces and barks to encourage someone to play.

She is still teething and does need to be supervised to ensure she doesn't chew anything she shouldn't but she should soon grow out of this teething stage. Each day seems to 'need' this mouthing less and less. She can stand and walk around on her two back legs really well. She likes to get her nose up on the table or counter to check it out and she climbed right into the dishwasher! We take her by the collar and say down, or just say down or just stare at her and she corrects. She sits nicely away from the table when we are eating. She will assume a sit position whenever she thinks it might be what you want from her.

She can sit and stay on command. She comes when called in the house. She will get down or off with words or signals. We keep her on a very regular schedule for washroom breaks and have had no accidents in the house. When she needs to go out she will make you aware. I would say that she is well house trained. We have had her crated at night when we first go to bed. She is quiet and settles nicely. If she does cause a commotion of any kind it means she needs to go out. We have never kept her in the crate all night as one of us usually gets her out and lets her come sleep with us! She is a typical Beagle on a leash, nose down and paying little or no attention to you. On a longer walk she does improve but this needs some work. Lil' Girl does not want to escape or leave her people. She wants to be with you however as she is a Beagle, she must be kept in an enclosed area when off leash as she may get a scent and just keep on going. She loves to go in the car and rides quietly and calmly.

She will do well either as the only pet or with any other pets. She will do well with children who understand setting play limits as she does have puppy exuberance. If you keep her settled and don't allow too rough play she will do great. A well fenced yard that would allow her some room to run which would be great. If you want a little gem who will love you than this Lil Girl is the one for you!

If you would like to make Lil Girl a part of your family, please submit an application for consideration.
