My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duke’s adoption fee is $250.

This darling boy is Duke; a 9 year old 14 lb. Shih Tzu. He is neutered, vaccinations are up-to-date and he’s had a summer dental cleaning. He’s a very sweet, funny, happy, and loving little soul.

Duke travels well in the car to his daily destinations for his walks with his foster sis, but does best with either a human for company when buckled into the backseat or if buckled into the front seat where he is quieter.

Duke is good with respectful, supervised children, other small dogs and cats and would be best suited to a quiet adult home environment. He loves human companionship, either cuddling or hanging out in the same room and he gets along very well with his foster sibs, (11 yo Lhasa/Tzu and 1 y kitty). He’s a playful little boy and has a good amount of energy for his age; he loves playing ball, playing chase with the cat, tug of war, chewing on his nylabone but is not good with plush animals as he will tear them apart even with supervision. Duke isn’t a fan of the crate and is anxious/fearful of thunderstorms, loud noises, and going into pet stores or the vet clinic.

We feel that Duke would best be suited to a single dwelling home with a securely fenced yard area as he loves to play ball-fetch and blitz around outside when his humans are out with him. He also gets up in the middle of the night if his human does; often with the need to go outside to pee, but he readily goes back to his bed. Because of Duke’s alertness, he has a tendency to hear sounds in the night and feels the need to respond by barking but, hopefully this will change when he becomes familiar in his new forever home. Duke does not indicate when he needs to go out to potty, but, will gladly follow and go outside every few hours; so someone who’s home a lot might be best so he can be taken out every few hours.

He has had a few health challenges such as digestive upsets; he does well taking 1/4 Pepcid during these times. He does best eating smaller meals (3-4 times a day) with a Pacer Ball (to slow him down). He also appears to have had some chronic inflammatory ear/skin problems and itchiness which will require regular maintenance and frequent cleaning/bathing.

Duke is an adorable little fellow and would be perfect for a person who is home a lot, who loves to walk and wants a cuddle-bug with lots of love to give.
