My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Graham has a pair of soulful eyes that will melt even the hardest of hearts. This beautiful boy was found along with his running buddy (or perhaps litter mate), Alexander, exploring the dumpsters outside a big city housing complex. Both dogs were thin, gaunt and in need of a good meal.

Animal Control Officers brought Graham and his pal, Alexander, to the City Shelter, where they received medical attention, food and fresh water. The boys began to flourish, and despite seeming shy at first meeting, they have warmed up beautifully. Graham is the more outgoing of the two, and loves to be the center of attention.

Shelter staff gave Graham rave reviews, and he passed every behavior test with flying colors. He made friends everywhere he went, including with the vet and tech staff. He cooperated beautifully during his vet exam, and earned himself a coveted Green behavior rating.

Shelter staff describe Graham as a Beagle mix, although his leggy, tall, thin physique suggests a bit of American Foxhound. His tri-color coat is short and requires minimal grooming. Graham is a medium sized, athletic dog, weighing 34 pounds, a very manageable size.

Graham has the characteristic "nose to the grindstone" panache that folks love in their scent hounds. Scent hounds are easy to entertain. They get alot of mental and physical benefit from their daily walks, as they investigate all the fragrances that abound in the outside world. Graham is easy to walk on lead, but can become distracted easily, so adopters may wish to use a halti lead as a tool to redirect Graham's attention to his handler's pace.

Graham would be a great choice for an active family with older kids, who are all on the same page about training a young adult dog. He seems a bit shy at first, but warms up quickly, once a trusted bond develops. He loves other dogs and likes to play. He could easily join a multi-dog home with other well behaved dogs, and while we have not had him around cats, Graham has no predatory instincts, so we think he would coexist nicely in a feline household.

Graham still has some puppy tendencies, and as a one year old adolescent, he is still learning his place in the world. He has responded nicely to basic obedience commands and is both treat and praise motivated. He has good housemanners for an active youngster, but adopters should be prepared to troubleshoot puppy behaviors, and fine tune his potty routine as he adjusts to new surroundings.

Graham is in excellent health, and has been recently neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
