Arena-ADOPTED!'s Story...
Estimated date of birth: 11/22/12
Arena came to us as a young puppy. She was adopted out to a young family who promised to spend lots of time with her and train her which is so very important, especially with the big breed dogs.. She weighs 63 lbs. Unfortunately her people did not do right by her. When they decided they did not have time for her, they got rid of her on Craigslist rather than contacting us to take her back and make sure she got a safe loving home. We were very lucky that we were able to get her back safely in to our rescue. The family who received her from Craigslist had a young baby and they did not feel they had the time to train Arena since she jumped up on people and pulled on leash. They knew her first home was not a good one because the adopters admitted that she was locked in a crate for 12-14 hours a day, so they called us to see if we would take her back and the answer was ABSOLUTELY. We hope to place Arena in a much better situation this time around.
When she came back to me it was evident that she was abused and neglected. When she feels like she is in trouble, she does the submissive pee and braces herself for physical punishment as she cowers and closes her eyes. It breaks my heart to see this. I learned quickly not to raise my voice with her. She is such an amazingly sweet dog and after all she has been through she still loves people. Within a day of working with her, she was sitting politely rather than jumping up to get attention. She is learning some basic commands now such as Sit, Stay, Come and Lay Down. She learned to shake paws in 5 minutes of working with her. She wants to please and is very smart. The first experience I had with Arena on a leash, she took me off my feet because she is so strong. This was no fun at all. Since she is very strong and had no past leash training, we fitted her with a head harness which she walks very nicely with, until such time as she learns to heal with verbal commands.
Arena needs a family who will continue with her obedience training and only consider positive reinforcement training. She has had enough negative in her life and we never want her to have to experience that kind of environment again! Since she had become an outside dog during her second home experience from the craigslist placement, now she only wants to go outside when someone is outside with her. She loves being inside with her family. Arena is an extremely sweet and loving dog who gets along well with other dogs and cats as well. Why Adoption is a Great Option

Arena-ADOPTED!, a Tracy German Shepherd Dog dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a German Shepherd Dog for sale in Tracy, or seeking a German Shepherd Dog dog from a breeder in Tracy.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Tracy already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Tracy breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even German Shepherd Dog breeders who help with German Shepherd Dog rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Tracy paves the way for another one to be saved.
