My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ur Taki is a real sweetheart. Just two years old, this robust, happy-go-lucky boy was roaming the city streets when Animal Control Officers convinced him to take a ride. Soon, Taki found himself in the pound, and happy to be was getting regular meals! Taki seemed unphased by the chaotic shelter lifestyle, and he received good behavior evaluations. He was rewarded with a spot in the shelter adoption program, but caught a nasty cold which quashed his chances at adoption.

Taki was shortlisted for euthanasia, when our shelter contacts reached out to us for help. We were delighted to welcome Taki into our Rescue, and we found that a short course of antibiotics resolved his sniffles. Shelter staff have described Taki as an Akita / German Shepherd. He has a powerful, large, muscular frame, and weighs almost 60 pounds. He seems to be at an ideal weight. His black and tan coat is short and requires minimal grooming.

Taki has an outstanding temperament, and would be a great choice for the multi-dog home of an active single or couple who enjoy an energetic canine companion on outdoor activities. He likes other dogs, and he would make a great walking or hiking companion. Since Taki is a mix of two large, powerful breeds, we think that he would do best in an adult home, or in a family with older kids. Although he is very friendly, he may well overwhelm toddlers.

Taki has a very playful vibe and seems to love life. He exudes confidence, without seeming overly Alpha. His adopters should be somewhat experienced with powerful, large breed dogs, and be willing to continue him on a course in basic obedience and leadership training. Taki has learned some basic commands and learns quickly, once his handler gets his attention. It's a good idea to give Taki a brisk walk to get his yayas out before beginning his training.

Taki has good house manners and is housetrained and crate trained. He was recently neutered, so adopters should have appropriate expectations and be willing to fine tune potty habits as Taki adjusts to a new routine. He rides well in the car and is not overly reactive to stimuli like toll and gas attendants.

Taki is in excellent health, and has been neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
