My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! My name is Abigail - or Abby for short - and I am a gorgeous 8 year old Umbrella cockatoo. My foster Mom says I am something called an escape artist and of course I do also like to chew on things – I am a cockatoo, after all!!! I LOVE to chew on household stuff if you are not careful, so you have to make sure to keep an eye on me at all times and to make sure you provide me with LOTS and LOTS of chewing/wooden toys. I am also really outgoing – a social butterfly if you will! I don’t mind other animals being around and even though Florida Parrot Rescue was told I only prefer women, I have warmed up to men now – so really it just depends on who you are – you will have to meet me to find out if we get along ;) I should not be in a home with young children though. If I do choose you as a friend, then I like to love on you all the time – I love cuddling and I love swinging from your hand, but watch out about over-bonding with me – if I get too bonded to one person I might not be nice to other people in the home, so please make sure you know how to handle positive reinforcement with cockatoos so this does not happen if I come to live with you. Of course I am also very vocal (again, I am a cockatoo!), so this is another reason you should know all about how to use positive reinforcement. I sometimes mumble as well and I like to say “I love you, Abigail”, “hi” and some other things my foster family has not quite figured out yet. My foster Mom is also trying to get me to try new foods, I sort of like those pellets, but I will keep working on that part, she say’s I am picky – whatever, Mom! Anyway – if you think you might like me, please fill out an application on the Florida Parrot Rescue website, and come meet me very soon!
