My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Beautiful sweet Rachel is a 4 year old girl who is a Plott Hound mix, most likely her dad was a pit bull or another bully breed. She has the loyal tendencies of a pit and the “nose to the ground” of a hound. She is shy at first meeting and benefits from patience and quiet love from her humans. She has lived with other dogs her whole life but recently a second female was adopted into the home and the two girls are having trouble getting along now that the “newbie” is growing up. The family gave up Rachel to us and she is now in foster learning to trust dogs and humans all over again. A medical appointment revealed that Rachel had lyme disease and her thyroid is in the borderline range. She would go for days at a time without eating but was still gaining weight. As soon as she got an antibiotic injection, within 48 hours, she was a new dog! She started eating regularly, is playing by herself and with other dogs, and is feeling better again. No wonder she was grouchy when another dog invaded her space; it was hurting her!

If you have a mellow male dog and would consider fostering or adopting Rachel, please contact us right away. This gorgeous girl is waiting patiently for the right family to love her and give her all the patience she needs. The thing she enjoys most is taking walks and exploring. She would walk almost endlessly or just explore – she has been to so many new places in the last few weeks and she just soaks it all in.

A chaotic home is not the right one for her – mellow but active is the perfect mix for her. We don’t think she will ever be a beach dog or dog park dog – she’s more of a “home base” kind of girl. She is a great snuggler once she gets to know you. She doesn’t need a crate because she doesn’t bother things in a “doggy proof” area. Riding in the car is fun for her, especially when she can see out. She walks beautifully on leash.

To apply to adopt this dog, please check out our application on our website, www.luckypuprescue.org.

Please note: We do not have a physical location, but we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.

Thank you for considering rescue!

Rachel is in foster in southern Maine while she waits to find her perfect forever family!
