Ryker is such a loving guy with both humans and other dogs that Farfel's Rescue was contacted by the shelter in Texas...could we possibly find a special and committed home for this exceptional Cairn/Maltese mix? We're not entirely sure if that's truly his breed combo...looks like it...but what we are sure of is that this adorable and scruffy little pup is worthy of a wonderful forever home. Ryker quietly creeps into your heart...his behavior is so wonderful and no dog could want to please more. At about 12 - 18 months old and 10 lbs, Ryker is a blank slate just waiting for loving guidance and clear boundaries so he understands how to be a great adult companion. Ryker just naturally has a great temperament and the curiosity to learn how to please...he gets so excited when he feels he's done a good job! Ryker's Houston foster mom had the following to say about this cutie-pie:
Ryker is so very sweet that I just want to hug him at all times! This truly beautiful pup (his photos in no way do his adorable face justice) loves attention and gets along well with other dogs...he definitely shows a preference for smaller canine companions. He's a bit fearful of large, rambunctious dogs. (my Chihuahuas really enjoy Ryker's fun spirit and friendly nature) Ryker loves to run and play - I think he'd be perfect to take on walks on those gorgeous Colorado trails. Ryker is so good in the house that I haven't needed to crate him. I've taken Ryker out and about for socialization... he walks great on a leash and is pleasant and stress-free to take anywhere. He would be a great family companion with gentle children 10+ (don't want him poked or his tail pulled with very young kids) and involved parents. I'd also love to see him in a home with active retirees - he would blossom with the love and attention.
We're searching for a truly devoted home for Ryker with a family who wants to include a sweet and silly pup in their lives. He would respond so well to socialization...coming along to dog-friendly spots to interact with as many humans and dogs as possible...this will teach him how fun and positive the world is. We would also like to see Ryker enrolled in positive reinforcement group training classes to bring out his great behavior and cement his bond with his family.
Ryker is a non-shedding guy whose cottony-soft hair will require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy and matt-free.
