My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SUZY is a 4 year old spayed chocolate female Lab that who weighs 88 pounds. She's a very sweet girl but absolutely everything is new to her and she will need time to adjust to indoor living. She is making progress She has learned how to walk up and down stairs as well as how to go through doors. She has become accustomed to some normal household activities, such as opening the fridge door and turning on a faucet. She wants love and attention and will put her head under your hand or lick it for you to pay attention to her. She is not recommended for first-time adopters ~ experience with shy dogs would be a plus ~ a fenced yard is a must and she must go with another dog to continue showing her the ropes. No busy neighborhood/apartment/townhouse/condo. She has been exposed to cats and paid them no attention and is approved for kids aged 10+

Oct 20, 2014: Suzy is so sweet and she continues to grow and learn more each day. See Suzy on YouTube here: http://youtu.be/XvUjld5BmJw.

Oct 15, 2014: Suzy is beginning to show her personality. She now greets her fosters excitedly, when they come home. She has discovered antlers and she loves them! She now prefers to eat with the pack rather than eat in isolation. We had a friend over, and Suzy joined her on the sofa, surprising us and our cat-person friend. Sometimes we have Suzy sleep on the bed with us, and she's quiet all night; usually she prefers sleeping on the floor or in a dog bed. Suzy is happiest when she's running around the yard, playing a game of keep-away with the resident lab. She has pretty well mastered doors, and will go in and out without much hesitation. She has come a very long way from being the ever-frightened girl who initially joined the pack. We love this girl and look forward to helping her find a forever home where she will get all the love she so deserves.

Update (10/5): Suzy makes significant progress each day. She now "begs" to go outside to play ball, and she runs all over the yard amusing herself with it. There have been additional canine house guests this weekend, a 3 month old puppy and her 11 year old sister. Suzy gets along well with both. Most importantly, Suzy greeted the guests and their owners when they arrived, and even let the "strangers" pet her without running away!

Update (10/2): Suzy continues to make great progress in her journey to be a beloved household member. She now joins her foster regularly downstairs in the evening during TV time, usually hanging out with one of the resident labs on the dog sofa. She shows interest in eating downstairs with the resident labs, but after a few bites it's upstairs to "her" bedroom to finish her meals. Suzy has gained enough confidence to go outside without too much coaxing to get her through the "scary" door. Once outside, she is positively joyful: big smile, tongue lolling. She's learned how to chase the ball on her own, then taunts the resident lab to come chase her. She loves to fetch, but has not learned she needs to give back the ball so it can be thrown again. Suzy knows zero commands, such as "sit," but she has learned "ball," "eat," and "let's go out to pees and poops." She's very smart and will learn quickly once she trusts in human kindness. Suzy will make a devoted family member.

Update (9/20): Suzy continues to do well and get used to being a pet in a loving foster home.

From LR Evaluator: She is a very pretty and sweet girl. She was fine with me touching her all over. She had energy because she hasn't had the opportunity to get any exercise. Suzy is a beautiful girl that will make her new family very happy.

NOTE: Suzy is a former breeder dog who was passed around to a few farmers that wanted to breed her. She will need a patient family who is willing to work with her, continue to encourage her and take things slowly. Her adopters need to be ready for a very slow acceptance process. She wants love on her own terms but in time will understand the unconditional love she will get from being adopted.

This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. The rescue has between 50 ~ 80 dogs available for adoption.
