My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Breed: Border Collie/Bernese Mountain Dog
Age: 1 year
Weight: 40-45 lbs
Good with dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Curious
Good with kids: Not Tested
Energy Level: Medium-High

I was struggling as to what breed to put Preston is. Although he has the markings of a Rottie, his fur and temperament doesn't match. His picture just spoke to me as soon as I saw his photo. His facial expression was a combination of concern, yet hope. After being evaluated and temperament tested, he was officially a DDR dog.

His gorgeous amber markings contrast nicely against the black. His face is full of expression and you always know when he's happy. My favorite part are his ears. They have light, long, fluffy fur that appear to be crimped with a woman's crimping iron. His tail resemble a plume, and it also has that crimped-like texture.

Just as we thought, this boy was worth the rescue. He looked so scared and timid in his cage as he came off the Animal Control truck. After our foster home got to know him, she confirmed everything we had hoped. Preston has a very soft personality. He's filled with sweetness and very well-mannered. He is a little shy at first but quickly comes out of his shell the more you engage him. Preston is very good with all dogs, including puppies! He is also good with cats. As if this boy couldn't get any better, he is also house-trained! He is clearly a people-pleaser. He is learning to play with toys. He will let the other dogs initiate play. He is learning to play from them. Preston is on his way to being Mr. Fantastic, but he still needs to learn some manners and basic obedience.

This little guy is a character with so much to give. If you would like to adopt Preston, please contact Margaret at margaretddr@yahoo.com.

Unless otherwise indicated, all Double Dog Rescue dogs have received the following before being available for adoption:

Thorough veterinary examination

All routine annual vaccinations, including Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella (kkennel cough), Heartworm Test, Fecal Test, Deworming

Spay/Neuter

All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease.

If any dog shows any signs of disease or ailment, DDR vets the dog until he or she has a clean bill of health to the best of our knowledge. This includes anything from being treated for Heartworm, Broken Leg, Cherry Eye, Torn ACL, Upper Respiratory etc.)

NOTE: Dogs who were treated for Heartworm can test positive up to 4-6 months after last treatment. All dogs are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin following the treatment to kill the Heartworm larvae. All dogs should be re-tested after 4 months from the last Heartworm treatment.
