Here's what the humans have to say about me:
COURTESY LISTING for SCOOBY. This dog is not at Oregon Dachshund Rescue. For information please contact Lynda at lynrichmc@live.com or Jenell at ODR, Inc. 503 313 3220, jrangan@comcast.net
Scooby is a 7 ½ year old Dachshund/Chihuahua mix.
He is a happy, friendly, gentle fellow who likes adults and children. He loves tummy rubs and to cuddle on your lap, but is equally happy curled up on a corner of the sofa, minding his own business while you are doing other things. He walks nicely on a leash. He loves to ride in the car.
He is neutered and in good health. His teeth have just been cleaned, and he is current on his rabies and flea meds (Revolution). He has been taking a small dose of “Prion” for some urine dribbling but he may be able to be weaned totally off that med. (There is no dribbling now.)
He will let you know he needs to potty by going to the door and waiting. He knows the word “potty.” He has learned to “sit,” and is eager to learn more. He needs to love 4 more pounds; he is currently at 18.4, and was at 19.8 about 3 weeks ago. He is eating Royal Canin Potato/Fish, and has eaten Avoderm in the past. He loves a bit of canned food mixed in with the kibble but doesn’t seem to be a fussy eater.
Currently Scooby is sleeping in a crate, but in the past has slept wherever he found a place to curl up.
When he first arrived, he marked a bit and barked a lot. Both of those behaviors have all but disappeared and may have been related to the anxiety of losing his home and being in a new place. He is now living with a Cocker Spaniel and Standard Dachshund and getting along well. He does not like cats and I would not try to get him used to a home with a cat. He is very afraid of large dogs, and apparently was picked on by large dogs in the past.
He loves fuzzy, squeaky toys and to chew on a small Kong, and he likes to carry a toy to bed and out to potty. He is not a resource-guarder, and he can be petted and touched all over.
The perfect home for Scooby would be with someone who is home much of the time, and would stay with him when outdoors. He can be trusted in the house alone, but seems unhappy when left alone for long periods. He would like a lap to cuddle in, and some toys to play with, and a short walk now and then. He would love to be with you when you go to a store or café, and is cute enough to attract lots of attention. He should not be left alone in the yard, as he may try to escape and go wandering.
ODR, INC. ADOPTION CRITERIA (aka Our Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember these are rescues, many were surrendered because of these issues.
