My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 9/25/14: Spencer is recovering very well from his neuter and amputation. It is clear that he is no longer in the pain he had been in with his injured leg. His eyes are brighter and clearer and while he still likes to snooze, he is ready for action! He went to the dog park today and had fun running around and enjoying the grass. His stitches will come out in about 7-10 days, then he will be ready for adoption. We feel a family with no small children under the age of 13 would be best for him.

UPDATED BIO 9/22/14: Spencer is an underweight 7 lb, 4 year old Yorkie that came into rescue in a lot of pain and unable to bear any weight on his right front leg. Unfortunately, our only option was to amputate it. He underwent surgery this morning and his leg was successfully removed. He was also neutered and had a dental at the same time. He will probably stay at the vet overnight, depending on how his recovery goes, and go home in the morning. Check back for updated pictures!

UPDATED BIO 9/19/14: Spencer is an underweight, 7 pound, 4 year old male being fostered in Gulfport FL. Spencer is suffering from an injury to his front right leg. Spencer went to see the dogtor today and he was a very good boy. The vet immediately could tell that the injury to his right leg was causing him tremendous pain, and that he'd had it for quite some time. His whole leg has atrophied, and he has no muscle at all in his shoulder area. He has not used that leg for quite some time. However, he gets along just fine on his other three legs and has no problem jumping on and off the couch and going up and down a couple of stairs. We decided that the most humane thing to do for little Spencer is amputate his leg. It is a quick procedure, and since the leg will be removed at the joint where there he has little muscle, it is both relatively painless and recovery time is not long. While he is under, he will also get neutered, and if time permits, he will have a dental.

Spencer is very sweet and so far, very mellow. However, we feel that he is too lethargic, and we are guessing it is because of the pain he is in, as well as an infection he picked up at the shelter. He is starting on antibiotics today, and on Monday, he will go in for his big operation. We hope and expect him to feel much better within a couple of weeks. Please keep this little nugget in your thoughts.

INITIAL BIO 9/18/14: Meet Spencer! Spencer is a little underweight 7 lb, approximately 4 year old Yorkie that found himself at a high kill shelter. He was initially adopted, but then returned a week later. So far, he is very quiet and sweet in his foster home. He has a problem with his front, right leg, and will not put any weight on it. It looks like it has been this way for a while, since it has atrophied. He is going to see the doggie dogtor tomorrow, so we will have more news then. Check back!
