My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BUDDY is a 2 year old neutered yellow male Lab who weighs 94 pounds. He's a wonderful dog! He is curious about the outdoors and likes to sniff and explore on his walks. He likes to meet other people and dogs on walks and will pull some on his lead to meet them. He was happy to stand around next to us while we chatted after he got a chance to greet the other dog. He wants to play with other dogs, especially labs. Buddy MUST go home with another dog and would prefer a home where people are not gone for a long workday. He should go to a family with a fenced-in yard as he comes from the country and won't do well in an apartment, condo or in the middle of a big city.. He's approved for kids aged 5+.

Update (10/10): Buddy has to be one of the sweetest dogs I have ever fostered. All he really wants is to be a part of whatever is going on and to be with his people. He does get pretty excited when he sees other dogs but settles quickly once he gets to meet them. So far his house manners are perfect. He has free reign of the house, along with my 2 dogs, and there has never been an issue. He usually greets me with a shoe in his mouth but it hasn't been chewed. His energy level is low to moderate. He wiggles when the harness comes out and he knows he is going for a walk and he is equally happy to come back in, grab a toy and take a quick nap. The couch is one of his favorite places. Buddy will be happiest in a home where he gets to be someone's buddy. He is the type of dog that will go everywhere just to be with his people. He loves the car, nothing I have seen makes him happier. He has been to outdoor dog friendly restaurants with us and he behaves beautifully. It may sound silly but he just wants to be someone's best friend. Buddy does need some work on his leash walking skills. He is a big strong boy and when he gets excited he will pull so the harness is the way to go. He has started to become a bit more independent of me and my dogs and has settled in really nicely.

Update (10/7): Buddy took a quick trip with his fosters to Ocean City and had a great time! He did well in the car for the long ride. Buddy joined his foster pack for lunch on the road and he was perfect at the outside dining area. He loved looking at the ducks and watching all the activity on the water. He had no problems staying at a new place, and he was a perfect traveling companion. Buddy is a joy to foster and is a lot of fun! He is almost comical at times as he is like a bull in a china shop. He loves everything. Buddy thinks 3 hour car rides are the best.

Update (10/2): Buddy has done well settling into his foster home! He wears a harness on walks and they have been much nicer with the harness. Occasionally he will pull, especially if wildlife is involved, but quickly stops when corrected. He enjoys having the resident dogs around but he either doesn't want to play or hasn't figured it out yet so it is very calm when everyone is outside together. Inside, he loves his toys and will go to the basket to get one and is content to play by himself. He likes to be with his foster and tends to follow her around but that has decreased over the past few days. He is left alone with the resident dogs for a few hours every day and he is fine when his foster returns home. Right now he has claimed the sunbeam in the kitchen and is taking a power nap

Previous update: He is great with kids ~ He loves hanging out with the family and in the yard or park. Buddy pulled initially on the leash but with an easy walk harness and some quick training (saying "no pull" and stopping him) he improved dramatically in just a few walks. He is highly trainable. In a week he had made a lot of progress in learning "wait" (stop walking and wait until released with "OK"). He likes treats, dicing hotdogs into small bites worked well for training treats. He doesn't counter surf or beg around the table for food. He does like to get up on the furniture but gets down with an "off" if you don't want him there. He slept well on a dog bed. He also enjoys his toys, especially ones with treats inside. He does not like to be left alone, so he should go to a family with another dog.

From foster: Buddy wants to be part of the family. He is really social and loves to go along with his family to games and parks etc. He enjoys being out and being around the action. He is playing with the resident dogs and was fine when left home alone for 3 hours on several occasions.
