My story

Good with kids: Not Tested

Black, soft, fluffy, and the perfect size. Meet Lockett! She is a little package with so much to give! Whenever she is let into the play area, it looks like she has a huge smile on her face. She is just so happy. She clearly makes the most of her time as you can see from the photos. She loves to play and chase toys. The staff at our vet's office said she is just a sweet little dog who wants to please. She was no trouble when she was there. Lockett was found abandoned in the middle of a highway. She was running alongside the road. Thankfully she was so friendly that she just ran right up to Animal Control and they brought her in. Actually, I should re-phrase that. She was lucky to bump into Animal Control that brings dogs to our shelter because they kept her safe for us until she was ready to come up north. Whoever adopts this little girl will need to promise us that she will get a lot of attention and love so she never has to think about her days on the highway.

Unless otherwise indicated, all Double Dog Rescue dogs have received the following before being available for adoption:

Thorough veterinary examination

All routine annual vaccinations, including Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella (kkennel cough), Heartworm Test, Fecal Test, Deworming

Spay/Neuter

All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease.

If any dog shows any signs of disease or ailment, DDR vets the dog until he or she has a clean bill of health to the best of our knowledge. This includes anything from being treated for Heartworm, Broken Leg, Cherry Eye, Torn ACL, Upper Respiratory etc.)

NOTE: Dogs who were treated for Heartworm can test positive up to 4-6 months after last treatment. All dogs are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin following the treatment to kill the Heartworm larvae. All dogs should be re-tested after 4 months from the last Heartworm treatment.
