JUNIOR's Story...
In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!

Junior could just be the best addition your home has ever had! He is five years old, weighs 17 pounds, and has a beautiful gold coat with that exotic black mask! One of his most endearing characteristics is his willingness to please you. He will do just about anything to be close to you and to engage your attention: from doing a little dance while standing tall, to grabbing his ball and bringing it to you to play fetch, to simply quietly lying next to you with his body touching yours. Junior is a very smart and engaging little guy!

Junior loves to walk and so he would enjoy an owner who could go on a long walk at least twice a day. Right now he is used to a long walk in the early morning, at noon, and again at about suppertime: rain or shine….and he thoroughly loves snow! After his last outside “potty break” for the day, he will look longingly at the bedroom in anticipation of curling up next to you for the night…and he sleeps straight through the night with no snoring!

He also enjoys trips to a small dog park where he can run and play with other dogs. He finds another playful dog to be fun for a while, but he always comes back to be with you. Junior also will do just about anything to go for a ride in the car. However, if not secured in a car harness or doggie car seat, he will run from window to window to watch the scenery.

Because Junior was left alone for up to 16 hours with his previous owner, he now has a definite desire to keep a new owner close by as much as possible. When left alone he will sit up on a chair and stare out the window waiting for your return...many times with his favorite toy under his paws. Various options have been explored to keep him from getting anxious or frantic after you leave, but a window from which to watch has proven to be the only option Junior wants. He probably experiences some separation anxiety, so it would help him greatly if his new owner is home a lot during the day, or at least will come home every 4 hours or so to reassure him and take him out to potty. His house training is excellent when you are home, but can be unreliable if you have to be gone most of the day.

Junior is still a young dog, and he would benefit from and really enjoy a beginning dog training class. Through training sessions a wonderful bond is created with the owner and the dog, and Junior would thrive if he is given tasks and develops skills to give him confidence and make you proud!

Junior is very healthy and is neutered, current on vaccinations, and is microchipped. His adoption fee is $270.00 plus $19.64 sales tax. His foster mom will adopt Junior within 60 miles of Bloomington, and she requests that the new owner please attend the STRMN Rescue Reunion each year in June.

To meet Junior and other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota, please visit with us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Minnetonka Petco near Ridgedale the last Saturday of every month.
