My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

KOA is a 5 year old intact chocolate female Lab who weighs 44 pounds (needs to gain a few ~ should weigh about 50 lbs). She is very, very gentle. Takes treats very softly and is not food aggressive with us. She has the softest, chocolaty fur, could run my fingers through her fur all day (and I think she would love it just as much as me). She is very curious about everything around her and doesn’t appear to be timid/scared about anything. She is approved for kids aged 10+.

Koa's Story ~ She was found by the side of the road and had been hit by a car. She was seen by and emergency vet and some x-rays were taken showed Koa's has several fractures. Koa was seen at our vet for a checkup then was evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon who recommended no operation as it has been too long since she got hit and the fractures have already started to knit and they might do more damage. She needs 5-7 weeks of crate rest, controlled exercise restrictions. She still stumbles a little when trying to walk but I definitely see an improvement since she has been here. Everyday her personality comes out more. As she begins to heal, I can’t wait to see the dog she becomes. I have never met a dog with such a warm, gentle soul. Her bones may be broken but not her spirit.

Update (10/1): Look at all these AWESOME facts about ME!
1) I am the 700th dog brought in to Lab Rescue in 2014!
2) I have been in my foster home for 1 month…I am healing really good!
3) I LIKE CATS! (I know this may be important to help me find my forever family)
4) I get along great with my two foster brothers (they are chocolate labs too)
6) I take treats really gently (I LOVE Milkbones and Snausages)
7) I don’t beg when my foster people are eating but if I stay here much longer my foster mom says she is worried my fur brothers will start teaching me bad habits.
8) Since I am still healing from my car wreck foster mom says we have to wait a little longer to work on good leash skills but she is letting me kinda practice in the front yard….so far I am pretty good at it.
9) She also keeps talking about some sit, stay, down… something or the other….not sure what that is but she says that training has to wait too… I bet I will ace that test!
10) I am not shy about meeting new people…I have walked up to all my neighbors and let them adore me all they wanted.
11) I am not timid or skittish….I like to explore everywhere and everything…loud noises don’t bother me a bit… After all, I am Koa the Brave!
12) I sleep through the night (shhhh….don’t tell but my foster mom has been letting me sleep on her really comfy Tempur Pedic).
13) I have been learning to like my crate and I have been doing great during the day when they have to go to that place called work.
14) I picked up the house routine pretty quick. I don’t think I have been an inside dog before so it took a little while to learn inside stuff and let them know when I needed to do outside stuff.
15) Although I need to gain a few pounds….I am petite! I don’t think my girlish figure will be above 50lbs….which is perfect for someone looking for a little lap lab!
16) I don’t mind being touched anywhere…even my toes (pedicures = heck ya!) Belly rubs always welcome.
17) I give dainty kisses…just a quick, dry…lick lick. .
• She will let you touch her anywhere…even her feet. This will make nail clipping easy!
she loves, loves, loves belly rubs. She will roll over on her side and lift up her front leg so you can get in there and pet her.
• She likes toys….although we can’t allow her try to play rough with them right now, I think she is going to need a full toy box one day.
• She wants nothing more in the world than to be with you. As a small girl, she will be the perfect lap dog!

Update (9/21): Koa’s foster mom says "She is just spectacular Someone needs to tell her she has a broken pelvis because this girl doesn’t seem to know that. Given the opportunity, she wants to go out and explore! She has been wonderful with my two dogs…she even tries to snuggle if they let her. She doesn’t mind cats! My cat came right up to her and stuck his nose in her ear and Koa didn’t mind at all. She loves canned salmon, baked chicken, and milkbones.
