My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sherlock is a 6 month old, 20 pound mix breed male that looks very much like a Springer Spaniel with short hair. Although the shelter said he is a hound mix, my best guess is that there is definitely some Springer and Pointer in his bloodline since he stands really still, tail straight and foot raised when something catches his full attention. Sherlock came to Rover Rescue from a shelter in Southern Indiana along with his sister who has since been adopted.

Between the two, his sister was the adventurous one and Sherlock was the shy timid guy that just followed the leader looking to her for reassurance and confidence. This holds even truer now that his sister has found her forever home. Sherlock loves other dogs but is very shy and timid to new people and places. Unlike most puppies that are inquisitive and like to explore new things, Sherlock is reserved, shy and startles easily, staying close to his foster mom for protection when he is faced with the unfamiliar. Patience, gentleness and structure are a definite must to bring him out of his shell.

Sherlock DOES NOT do well with children because of his fears and is looking for AN ADULT HOUSEHOLD, with someone home during the day and preferable with another playful dog to play and run with that will take the lead with new situations and surroundings. Since Sherlock is still a pup and isn’t totally housebroken, he needs regular potty breaks and can’t be left alone for more than a couple of hours without someone being home to let him out and reinforce good training habits

Sherlock is a smart little guy who seems to catch on rather quickly but will tuck his tail between his legs, drop his head, slinks away and looks at you with the saddest eyes when he thinks he’s in trouble. Obedience classes are highly recommended for him not only for training but also for the socialization of getting over his fear s of new things and places.

Sherlock has been neutered, heartworm tested, flea and worm treated, is up to date on his puppy shots, has already been micro-chipped and is ready to go to his forever home. So if you have a quiet adult household with someone home during the day, another canine to keep him company and the time and patience that it takes to train a new puppy, Sherlock might be just what you’re looking for. If you would like to meet this dog please call Cindy at 708-655-9620. The adoption fee is $225.
