My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet BRANDY and Read Her Story ^..^ Fluffy Mitted Tortie
Sweet BRANDY, my HERO, is a stunning Mitted Tortie with a fluffy coat. She is fairly timid, but has mostly come out of her shell and will wait at my bedroom door and do a subtle happy dance and follow me all over rubbing my legs because she really wants attention. She is very cautious and wants to initiate contact so she will feel secure. Brandy and the remaining not-yet-adopted kittens that she raised live in my bedroom and all hang out together. She also likes to play under the door with another of our cats or one of our two dogs. Brandy would do well with another cat (she cried the day I took all the kittens to the Vet for sterilization), perhaps consider one of the kittens she raised, as she likes to cuddle with them still. All in all, she is a sweet, beautiful girl with a huge heart and a ton of potential to become someone's special cat. I totally see it in her!

BRANDY and her babies were rescued from a LA County shelter when the kittens were only a week or so old. The entire family was very sick and practically starving. They all required round the clock care, but despite our efforts, sadly, her babies did not survive. Despite her loss, Brandy showed her Mother's Heart and jumped right into a box with another litter of sick babies whose mommy was too ill to even eat or drink for herself, not to mention care for her six babies! I was in AWE that she took it upon herself and just did it! It was touch and go for a while, but with Brandy in the lead -- nursing them as best she could in her own weakened condition, cleaning them, keeping them warm -- and our volunteers bottle feeding the babies and taking care of their potty needs and administering other supportive measures, the other litter made it through! I can tell you that without Brandy, all of those babies would have perished. We even fed Brandy kitten formula with a syringe as well to help her keep her strength up during her heroic surrogacy. My heart broke for the babies we couldn't save and swelled to witness this little girl who gave almost everything she had to save these babies.

This is the Reality of Rescue, this is the Behind the Scenes of what organizations like ours face everyday as we do everything we can to mitigate the problem of a domestic animal population out of control while diligently keeping our eye on the individual lives that come into our care. We save as many as we can, and every life is precious. But the cycle stops with us. All of the kittens and cats we save are spayed or neutered to insure that they will not reproduce. And then. . . we look for loving folks like you to provide forever homes for these little souls.
