Gunther is about 10 years old. He loves to exercise and walks 2 very hilly miles every day with his foster family, which has contributed to significant weight loss. He used to weigh 32 pounds, but is now down to about 20 pounds. He is very self sufficient. He likes attention but he isn't needy. He sleeps in his own bed by choice. He will sit up and beg but never for food. Always for attention. He loves car rides. He enjoys other dachshunds but doesn't need them. He is really a character. I recently discovered he likes balls and will fetch. He can be a silly boy. I think Gunther would be good with an older person who travels a lot. Or alternately a family with school age kids who would treat him like a doll. He is extremely easy. He's even good with dog savvy cats. If they ignore him, he will ignore them, but...if they choose to run, he will chase. He is subject to seizures but with phenobarbital he doesn't have them. He does have an issue with yeast on his skin so he needs bathing monthly. If you need one more reason to meet GUNTHER, he has really cute wrinkly wrists. Some one is always telling him to pull up his sleeves! As a senior doxie, Gunther's adoption fee is $175.00. Just a reminder that this dog is NOT at Oregon Dachshund Rescue. ODR, INC. ADOPTION CRITERIA (aka Our Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember these are rescues, many were surrendered because of these issues.
