Gertie, born in January 2009, is a very special little girl who has had some trauma in her life and needs a very special someone to adopt her. You see, Gertie is just terrified of strangers so she does not show very well at the shelter to potential adopters, and she gets passed by a lot. However, as you can see from her pictures and video, once she gets to know you and trust you a little she is just the most fun-loving and playful little gal. She loves to chase squeaky balls, go on sniffy walks, have her tummy rubbed, crawl in your lap for petting and generally just have a good time staying close to those she loves. Gertie can be a little dog selective, but as you can see from her video she gets along well with older, calm dogs.
She knows how to sit and comes when she's called. And though she is a stocky little thing, Gertie only stands about a foot high at the shoulders, so she is a compact size. She would be great with someone who would go slow with her while she adjusts to a new life, and would benefit from being in a relatively quiet, adult home where she did not have to do a lot of "entertaining." (She would be happy to hang out in her crate with a chew toy in another room if you had company.) If you are a patient and kind person who might have a special place in their heart for a very special little girl, ask us about Gertie. We'd be happy to work with you to help her transition to a forever home with you.
