My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duke: 6 Year Old Yellow Male Lab Neutered 90 Pounds AKC

WE WOULD LIKE DUKE & JACK TO BE ADOPTED TOGETHER

Duke’s owner has recently divorced and is having to sell the home to settle everything. He had to move in with a friend and could not take his dogs with him. He reached out to Golden Gate Lab Rescue and we evaluated Duke and his half- brother and took them into our program.

This is what we know about Duke:

The owner purchased Duke from a breeder in the San Francisco area and brought him home at 8 weeks of age. Duke had been a loved member of the home for the last six years and it is very sad for the owner to have to let go of his dogs. When the person from Lab Rescue called the vet the owner went to the receptionist on the phone started to cry that he had to let go of his dogs. The owner describes Duke as a gentle mellow dog that is a real sweetheart. He is housebroken and has been an inside outside dog his entire life. (He uses a doggie door when the owner is not at home.) Duke has been raised with other dogs and he has been well socialized over the years with people and other dogs. The owner has had many labs in his past and he has trained all of them. Duke knows: Sit, stay, down, fetch, leave it, drop, come and off. (He stated Duke has a large vocabulary.) Duke will come when called and he walks very well on a leash without pulling. He has been around children and he would do fine with small kids as he is not a jumper and will listen to no. Duke went on daily walks with the owner and he would get out to play with other dogs at least once a week. He has not been around cats so we are not sure about cats but he is fine with other dogs and other animals. Duke loves to go for car rides and hang his head out the window and of course he loves to go for a refreshing swim! Duke can be left alone and will not bark, does not have separation anxiety and does not have any possessiveness towards food or toys.

We currently have Duke at our boarding facility and he gets along and plays with a variety of dogs. The kennel really likes him and says he is a real sweetheart of a dog!

Duke is very healthy, has all his shots, is neutered, is heartworm negative and is microchipped. We are working on getting a few pounds off Duke.

(Duke tore his ACL and we will arrange for the ACL surgery over the next couple of weeks. He was running and stumbled in a hole.)

Duke is located in Novato!

If you have the time for this mellow happy boy and want him to be a part of your family, please contact Liz at 415-613-6374.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
