My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lovable Flappy is destined to be the shooting star in the lives of his new family. Just 6 months old, Flappy was dumped by his owners in City Animal Control, where young pups fall victim to the ravages of kennel cough and other unkind upper respiratory infections. As soon as Flappy came down with a cough, he was booted out of the adoption program, and greenlighted for euthanasia.

We simply could not resist Flappy's big brown eyes and big floppy ears, so we immediately invited him into our rescue. Like a true Disney hero, Flappy navigated the rescue process like a clueless ingenue, eliciting hugs and puppy kisses from everyone he met. His behavior evaluations were some of the best we've ever seen. Even under Vet poking and prodding, Flappy worked the room.

Flappy has an outstanding temperment for a family dog, and will readily join in on all family activities. He loves to play, and will tolerate endless kid attention. He also loves other dogs, and puts out that infectious vibe that gets even the grumpiest of dogs into play mode. He has a natural confidence that adapts to any situation, and to any human or dog pack.

Flappy is at the threshhold of his young life, where the next few months are crucial to his social development and training. He has wowed us in Puppy Kindergarten, and is both treat and praise motivated. He already knows his Sit and Down, and is ahead of the learning curve on obedience work. Flappy has great potential, and could easily attain his Canine Good Citizen certification with the patient help of committed adopters.

Flappy is a petite Beagle mix, weighing 21 pounds, and has all of the comic irreverence that made Charles Schultz' "Snoopy" a national treasure. Flappy sports the classic Beagle tri-colors, with a black saddle back and brown/white markings on his legs and chest. He has a lean, lithe physique, with long legs that suggest a hint of American Foxhound in the mix.

As a scent hound, Flappy has the tendency to follow his nose on walks and become distracted by the wonderous scents of nature. Adopters may wish to use a Halti Gentle Leader or No Pull Harness to re-direct Flappy's attention to his handler's pace. Great care should be taken to follow the full course of obedience, including the "come on recall" command before Flappy is allowed off lead.

Flappy is in excellent health, and has been recently neutered. He has been vaccinated for rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo and parainfluenza). He has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. He has been microchipped and dewormed.
