CLAUDIA WRITES:

Please see below, this is a bit lengthy , but a long story. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance for any help or direction you can provide.

I have been involved with animal rescue for over 20 years locally and absolutely cannot find a home for the last of my Dad’s dogs. I also am the Director of the San Bernardino County (largest county in the United States) Animal Cruelty Task Force through the District Attorney I work for.

http://www.sbcountyda.org/ServicesInformation/AnimalCrueltyTaskForce.aspx

Since my Dad passed in July 2012, Victor, the last dog, was one of my Dad's dogs. I have contacted 84 rescue groups in CA, NV, AZ and CO. I have sent out approximately 415 emails, I have a huge network as I am the coordinator for the San Bernardino County Animal Cruelty Task Force through the District Attorney here. I have sent out emails countywide within our county employees. The few emails I received back from rescue groups state they do not "rehome", only take strays or from shelters. I also, contacted the local Los Angeles news stations, 2,4, 7, 9, 11 to see if they would do a human interest story.

Reason - my Dad, slipped and fell trying to save a stray puppy that had been hit by a vehicle in front of his house. He was 83, he broke his hip and leg and then succumbed to his injuries several days later, this was all very sudden and I have no other living relatives and have been caring for my Dad’s dogs for nearly two years now, I won’t sell his house until I have a home for all of them. I only have Victor left. I work full time at the DA’s office and am now taking care of three houses, my Dad’s, my own and a retirement home in WA – that I was going to move my Dad with me ( I was supposed to retire last March).

I have also written to the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Several rescue groups have done courtesy listing and posted on Facebook and Pet finder. I have posted his flyers in all the local veterinarians office and several I have used in Orange Co. CA. I cannot take Victor as I have three of my own and that is the limit where I live. I have to find a home for him and get my Dad’s home sold. I won’t take him to a shelter. That is the only reason I have not put the house up for sale, is for the dogs. But I must sell it. I have no other relatives period. My Dad and I were it. I have had friends contact friends and spread the word. San Bernardino County is overflowing with unwanted dogs and it's nearly impossible to find homes for animals here.

Victor had a very horrible start to his life. My Dad rescued Victor from a very high kill shelter, (Devore Shelter – County of San Bernardino) in very bad shape, they had let him suffer for days on end with no medical care, until my Dad was able to get him out on his last day. Victor’s paws were shredded, raw and bleeding, underweight, very sick and unable to walk. The vet said he probably was drug behind a car and probably used as a bait dog, has some scarring on his face. My Dad took him in and nursed him back to health. He is neutered, chipped, very friendly and loves people. He is about 6- 7 years old. He walks excellent on a leash. Victor learns very quickly and is eager to please. He does have a high prey instinct for bugs/small animals; green beetle bugs, gophers, and lizards. He has never been around cats. He does well around children, he has been around a 2 year old girl for a couple of weeks and did fine. He is housebroken and uses a doggie door, rarely barks and loves to be a couch potato with a human. He is in excellent health and UTD on shots. He loves rides in a car and to to have his belly scratched. He is very lonely now. He slept on my Dad’s bed. I found homes for my Dad’s other dogs and his personality has changed now and he is very, very shy around other dogs, and will try and hide or walk away with other dogs around, so probably would be best an an only dog. He absolutely loves people and gets so excited. He has no problem meeting new people and just goes right up and waits to be petted, extremely friendly.

The attached little video shows Victor recently at the local shelter I took him to see how he would interact with other dogs, and he just shied away and would not interact and only wants to be near humans. The other picture shows the day my Dad and I brought him home from the emergency vet after he was rescued from the Devore Shelter in San Bernardino, and the last picture is a recent shot – just a happy dog.

Please let me know if there is anything you can do to help. I am willing to drive him anywhere in the lower 48 states to a forever, only excellent and permanent home and will give a very good donation to help with any of his costs.
