My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Odin finds himself in need of a new home. He is a four year old Norwegian Elkhound and is just a gorgeous representative of his breed. He weighs about 55 lbs and is very strong physically.

Odin is living with a senior dog who doesn’t always appreciate his attempts to play, so he could live with another active yet gentle dog or could live as an “only child” – we think he’d enjoy an active family where he was the only pet since he loves attention and loves to possess all the toys in the house. Odin has never lived with cats, and he could easily knock down a small child with his size and strength. He has been around small children who have pulled his fur and he didn’t love that (who could blame him?) – older respectful kids would be best. He can get over-excited if there are active and loud activities going on.

Odin has not used a crate since he was a puppy, and he does just fine without it in a safe area. He “free feeds” and is not a ravenous consistent eater – he might skip a meal here or there but is healthy and well cared for. Odin likes other dogs and goes to doggy day care if his owner has to be away. Odin loves chasing balls and chewing on marrow bones, bully sticks or elk horns. Odin is a fast runner and can pull a bit on leash so he uses a gentle leader.

Our volunteer went to meet Odin and was so thrilled to find a sweet and affectionate dog who just wants to be petted and scratched. Odin thinks he is a lap dog and loves to be petted; he requires consistent brushing every 1-2 days because of his long beautiful fur. Odin can be a bit nervous and will be hesitant with new people who come right up to him or over him. If they approach gently, or let Odin do the approaching then he does well. New situations can be unnerving at first but once he feels safe he will be OK with his trusted humans around.

Odin LOVES the snow but not the deep freeze that we sometimes get in New England. He would much rather be inside sleeping in a warm spot.

Odin is a gentle soul who loves unconditionally.

To apply to adopt Odin or any of our sweeties, please fill out the application on our website, www.luckypuprescue.org.

Please note: We do not have a physical location, but we are supported by a network of wonderful foster homes that are spread throughout New England. A dog will need to be visited by a prospective adopter in the foster home where they are feeling safe and comfortable.

Thank you for considering rescue!

Odin is fostered in central Maine while he waits for his forever family to find him!
