My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We are trying to find a loving home for Ollie, the collie, so his golden years may truly be golden for him. Ollie is the victim of extreme abuse by neglect. We were told he is 8 years old and that he was taken to the vet 1 time in those 8 yrs. It was a friend that took him to the vet (the person who got him in to rescue), because one side of his face swelled up and she feared Ollie might have been bitten by a snake. Ollie is such a sweet and gentle guy it is heartbreaking that he is in such terrible shape now. His coat was so badly matted that he had to be completely shaved. That was the least of his problems. When first rescued, he looked and acted like he was at least 16 years old. I brought him home and have been trying to get him in better shape. He tested strong heartworm positive, has hip dysplasia, is obese (It wasn't just tons of matted hair after all, the lady was at least feeding him) and he has terrible teeth. He weighed 83# and he should weigh about 60#. Hopefully, his hip problems will decrease significantly when he looses down to his ideal weight. He has also been getting a joint supplement to help with his hip problems. We have started him on an Ivermectin based heartworm prevention so his heartworms don’t get any worse. At this point he is asymptomatic for heartworms. His teeth are terrible. Our vet said he has a fissure by one of his back teeth that allowed him to see up into Ollie’s sinus cavity and that this would have to be taken care of by a dental specialist and would probably cost about $1500 to $1700 which we do not have the funds to pursue. We are feeding Ollie a soft diet and he does not seem to have any pain when he eats. Our vet decided that Ollie would not be able to tolerate being neutered and that it would not be necessary anyway due to his hip dysplasia. As you can see, he has many issues. On the bright side, Ollie is the sweetest guy you could ever want to meet. He is feeling much better and now acts like he's about 12 years old. Ollie is housebroken, walks well on a leash, does well in a car (just has a lot of trouble getting in a car) and is great with other dogs. Just a collie in every sense of the word!

Ollie will need a home with someone that is robust enough to help him get up should he need help as he sometimes does. He will need to continue with the joint supplements to aid with his hips in addition to the normal needs all dogs have. Ollie is up to date on vaccinations. If you would like to give this super love the kind of home he deserves, please fill out our online adoption application.
