My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE READ THIS PROFILE AND THE REQUESTED CRITERIA BEFORE CALLING OR SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION. THANKS FOR YOUR ATTENTION AND CONSIDERATION

THIS IS OPIE....a striking, red, 21 lb, 5 yr old, absolutely adorable dog....his breed? It's anyone's guess! When we first saw him, he had long, flowing hair and looked just like a Lhasa Apso. His owners apparently dumped him in the shelter, matted to the bone, with a dangerously large inguinal hernia, which had to be repaired as an emergency before it burst. He was so matted, they shaved him to the bone...and now, we're not sure what his breed is! Opie can be whatever you want him to be and he'll like it just fine! He is now all healed, doesn't seem to shed and he is a gorgeous color red -- reminds us of "Opie" from the Andy Griffith Show and he is just about as precocious! One of Opie's favorite things to do is to drag his bed around the house like it's his "bankie" and then teethes on it like a puppy!! He loves to wrestle and play with the other dogs and his human....and play bite on your fingers like they are candy! He's a talker, but not a barker! He does like to communicate on walks and lets everyone know that he is your protector! Despite his size, he loves to jog on walks and is very active! He could benefit from training, as we don't think he has ever had any! He loves his foster buddy but he does pick and choose his friends. Opie would likely do better with a dog his size or a little bigger. The ideal home for this lover, who also enjoys snuggling and cuddling, would be an active home, with kids over 12 yrs old and another dog or two....and a family who will love him to life, get him some training and have patience with him. He's a great buddy and would be perfect to go running with! This is a happy boy who needs a happy home....is that with you?

UPDATE!!!! Lhasa Happy Homes will be now holding our adoption events most every Sunday at ROVER KENNELS on Main Street in Santa Monica (check calendar link below for special events and directions). Rover is located at 2116 Main Street, in Santa Monica, CA. Here you will have an opportunity to interact with the dogs and see which might be a perfect fit with your household. Main Street is famous for its innovative shops and is close to the beach! Make a day of it!! Metered parking on the street and free parking on 4th and Bicknell Streets.

Here you will have an opportunity to interact with the dogs and see which might be a perfect fit with your household....and do some fantastic shopping at the same time! Please do call us if you are coming to see a particular dog to make sure he/she will be at adoptions (we do not bring sick dogs to our adoption events). Please bring a copy of your application and pictures of your home and yard if we have not done a home check! Most importantly, if you have a dog, make sure you bring him or her to do a compatibility match with the dog you are interested in adopting!

Don't forget to check out our Events Calendar for more information on upcoming events!

See our home page for more details about our adoptions at Lhasa Happy Homes
