My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET OLIVER

If resilience was defined by how well a Double Dapple Dachshund survives a difficult home life, we would have to name this little guy something related to strength, courage or love...For now, we'll call him OLIVER (or OLLIE) He has come to us from a humane society where he was brought by his 'backyard' breeder to be put down...you see our newest little friend is a little hard of hearing, though he can hear and feels vibrations as well, though like all doxies, can have some selective hearing issues when he is called to come in and he is in the middle of some other bit of fun. Ollie also has a slight amount of sight loss, though truly minimal, but it makes him the kind of doxie that backyard breeders can't sell...Fortunately for this little guy and for us, Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. was able to take him in and get him ready to find his forever family. OLLIE is about 2.5 years old, about 15 lbs (so a small tweenie) and has short white hair with gray on his years and around his beautiful eyes. We've already talked about how resilient he is, but he also wants you to know he is loving and enjoys cuddles and kisses. He likes cats and older kids so he will make a GREAT family pet. He could even live with a friendly, female doxie (spayed of course). He really enjoys running and playing in the yard, so a really secure yard is a must.

UPDATE from his Foster Family:

This young man has come a long way. He loves all people, gets along with other dogs of any size with the proper introduction . He is a good eater, he is not food aggressive, he does need a slow-bowl he does tend to gulp. He does very well in the house with only a mistake very rarely. He loves his ex large wire crate and will go and lay in it on his own. He does not bark in his crate and is learning not to react so much in the house. Ollie does not seem to be a digger and only wants to please his owner. He would do very well in obedience classes and this would make him a much better dog. He loves to give kisses and sit next to his people. He is great about not begging but will get into the garbage can if something smells really good. He does not care about cats however he picks and chooses. He loves to play in the yard and I think would love to have his own person to play with. He will happily sleep with his people or in his crate which ever you prefer. Only very minimal hearing and site loss. Extremely handsome muscular tweenie. This is one very special Dachshund…………..

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give OLIVER a happy, carefree life again? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
