My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Scamp's adoption fee is $350.

Scamp is a special-needs dog and is looking for an extraordinary family to help him through life.
Scamp is an adorable little fellow, roughly 18 pounds, with white curly fur, and grey/black ears and markings. He is neutered, vaccinated, micro chipped and in good health. Although his history is unknown as he was found as a stray, the vet believes him to be a Schnauzer/Poodle mix, maybe 5-6 years of age. Scamp is already vision-impaired, an inherited condition common in poodles, and it will eventually lead to blindness. At present, however, he sees well enough to get along inside and outside of the home. He is active, smart and eternally happy. He compensates from his poor vision with heightened emphasis on hearing and smell, to the point where he can gleefully retrieve a ball or chase other dogs at the dog park. He loves to jump for a toy, to run full-out beside a bike and take long walks through the neighbourhood. Scamp is loving beyond imagine, and lives to be cuddled. His favorite play things are squeaky toys and a small rubber ball which he loves to chase.

Scamp’s new owner can expect all the behaviours of an older dog: obedient, respectful of furniture, coming when called, and staying with his owners off-leash in open areas. He is quiet in the home, but does bark when he hears sudden noises or people entering. Although he is good with children and other animals, it is felt that a peaceful, well-organized home where he is the only dog and can get used to obstacles being consistently in the same place and members of the family moving calmly would be in his best interests. He is house trained, and is able to make it through the night, but does require frequent trips outside during the day. We would therefore recommended that Scamp go to a family where he would not be alone all day.

Scamp is a wonderfully spirited individual, very easily trainable, and with a determination to master the world. With the right owners who will support him and give him confidence as his sight declines, Scamp will use his incredible intelligence and heightened senses to live the normal life which he so deserves.
