Hi, my name is Lakota and I turned 5 years old this week.  My breed was listed as mix newfoundland/irish wolfhound.  I am not a big boy as I only weight 62 lbs.  I am current on my shots as of last month. My heartworm check came back normal and I am on current heartworm meds.

I will be coming from a home that has had so much love that I will be in need of a new home that can provide the same love, kindness and devotion that I am accustom to.  I am not an outdoor dog and I do not know how to play with toys.  I have had three other dogs to play with all of the time so I did not need toys.

Over the past few months I have decided that I do not care for one of my brothers that I have lived with for the past five years.  So we don’t hurt each other mom has decided it best to find a new home for one of us.  I play fine with the other dogs and love having them around.  We play and roll all over each other.  I would probably be continent without another dog and enjoy the one on one attention.  Cats and other species of animals would not be recommended.

I do not like to sleep in a bed with my mom, but might be okay sleeping next to the bed after I get used to the idea of not sleeping somewhere close to my kennel.  I love to lay on the air conditioning vents most of the days as they keep me cool with my long hair.

I do know the command of go lay down, but you will have to show me where my new spot will be or I will get confused.  I have two places at home right now.  I have a rather springy butt so sit down doesn’t last very long for me.  With a little practice and no other dogs for distraction, I feel I could learn all kinds of commands.  I often cry when I get confused about what you want me to do.  I want to make you happy but I am not always sure what you mean.  Patience and understanding always help me when this becomes a problem. A gentle pat on the head and some insurance that I am not doing something wrong quickly corrects the problem.  My mom wasn’t a very good teacher.  She spoiled us way too much.

I have never been around children and mom does not think that learning to play with them now would be a very good idea.  Mom thinks the perfect home would be with just adults.  I love people so much and people always say they would like to have me for a pet.  I love to have my butt scratched and will dance all over the floor for you if you scratch it.  I am a very polite eater and will not bite your fingers if you give me cookies.  I am very protective of my own food bowl and prefer not to share it with other dogs.

I am also very comfortable in my kennel and usually prefer to eat and sleep in there with the door open.  I am willing to go in a kennel if you prefer me to be there for short periods of time while you are gone.  I do not chew on anything but do occasionally like to have a rawhide bone.

I need plenty of love because that is what my mom has always given me.  She loves me so much!!!  My mom is terribly ill and can no longer take care of all of us.  Trying to find us a new home has been her last priority as she felt she would die rather than give us up.  She has always adopted her dogs and shared her life only with all of us.  Her home has only been full of dogs and nothing else, no family, roommates or friends.  We made her very happy and content.

As you can tell from my picture I do have long hair.  I am not very receptive to having my fur brushed.  I don’t like it!

If there is anyone out there who could love me as much as my mom, I might be able to go home with you.  There may be a little trouble adjusting to not having mom around, but over time and with enough love I may be able to get along without her.  I know in my heart that she will never adjust to being without me.  My mom cries a lot because we have to go and it makes her sicker to worry about us.

If you would like to come visit me or take me home for the weekend to see if I could fit in, I think my mom would be okay with that.  If you have questions about me and you want to talk to my mom please feel free to do so.  Please don’t be discouraged if my mom cries all of the time, she just never imagined that she would have to part with her children.

Although I told my mom not to let you in on this little secret, she felt that it would be in everyone’s best interest if she included this in the info.  DO NOT EVER, EVER LEAVE THE TOILET SEAT UP!!!  You will have many regrets if you do.  I will apologize ahead of time should you somehow forget upon occasion.  Mom thinks you will only do it once.

My mom forgot to tell you that I  have never had a collar on, nor have I ever been on any kind of leash.  I have a one acre back yard with no entrance and exits, so I have always been allowed to run the yard.  I am extremely well behaved in a car, so if you want to go for a drive, put me in and lets go hit the road.  I will happily tag along for any ride as long as  you never ever leave me in the car by myself.  I get anxious and might tear something up if you leave me alone.

Come Meet Our Pets...

We have adoption events at local Petsmart stores every weekend. Events usually run from 10 - 3.
You can always call or email during the week and a foster parent could set up a meeting with you. or 636-288-2999.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption fee for dogs is $125 and $90 for cats, regardless of whether the pet is a pure breed or a mixed breed. All of our pets are Vet checked for health, spayed or neutered, wormed, up-to-date on all vaccinations and micro-chipped. Dogs are tested for heartworm, treated if necessary, and placed on preventative. Cats are tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV. All injured pets receive any treatment or surgery needed to restore them back to good health!
To adopt a pet from All Paws, or to find more information on one of our pets, visit us at any adoption event, e-mail us at, write us, or call us on the PAWS Line at 636-288-2999. Because we are a foster home network, we make efforts to meet adopters at times and places convenient to all involved. We do ask potential adopters to first complete a pre-adoption form, for the purpose of ensuring your compatibility with a pet, as well as your eligibility to own a pet. After the pre-adoption form is reviewed and OK'd, we require adopters to complete an adoption contract. We do not discriminate against anyone for reasons of race, religion, politics, gender, or sexual orientation; but reserve the right to refuse adoptions based on the information we interpret from these forms, with regard to legalities, and the pet's needs or requirements. We try very hard to make every adoption, a happy and satisfactory one!
