Facts about Buster (w/ Carlie)

  • Breed: Pigeon
  • Color: White
  • Age: Adult
  • Sex: Male
  • ID#: 7705651-A2012127
UPDATE: Buster is all grown up and married to a lovely one-eyed homing pigeon named Carlie. They are a cute couple and would do well either in an aviary or as indoor pets. They aren't particularly tame at the moment but Buster has a lot of experience being with people and Carlie's easy going. With time & patience, they could become lovely pets.

Hello! Our names are Elliot & Buster and we are extremely lucky king pigeons. Most king pigeons are butchered and eaten at the age of 8 weeks (despite the fact that we are very sweet, smart and sensitive). Somehow, we beat the butcher and were 'set free' in a housing development in Redwood City where we would have been quickly killed (by hawks, ravens, cats, raccoons, etc.) if it hadn't been for some very nice people who noticed our plight and called the animal shelter. One was very sick and weak (Elliot) and the other, Buster, was very strong and a really good friend. Despite the best efforts of the shelter staff, Elliot continued to decline and, on the verge of death, was going to be euthanized on 8/8 when shelter staff reached out to the always over full MickaCoo for help. MickaCoo did take these two in (keeping them together since they were such good buddies) and with a lot of care and good luck, Elliot's condition reversed and she (?) began to gain weight and strength. It has been a joy to see these two beat the odds and thrive. As one friend of MickaCoo put it, 'Their lives are no smaller than ours.'Please apply to adopt

About Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoptions

About Our Rescue Group...

Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoption saves homeless domestic (unreleasable) pigeons and doves in the SF/Bay Area from euthanasia by providing veterinary care, foster and forever homes.

Palomacy fills a deadly gap in the animal welfare community by saving the lives of domestic/unreleasable doves and pigeons that would otherwise be killed. We're volunteer-powered, donation supported and culture changing! By providing avian vet care, foster and forever homes, we've saved more than 700 birds' lives since 2007. Join us!

Come Meet Our Pets...

We are a volunteer-powered rescue and our birds are lovingly cared for in the private homes and backyard aviaries of our foster volunteers. Potential adopters can make appointments to meet our birds and we are at adoption & outreach events almost every weekend. See our Events page at and visit our Facebook page at for details.

Our Adoption Process...

We require an online adoption application, phone screen & home visit and offer lots of support and coaching all along the way. Our adoption fee is $10/bird and our expectations for adopters are:
-Appropriately sized, safe and uncrowded cage or aviary approved by Palomacy
-Supervised, safe out-of-cage time (if not living in an aviary) daily
-No free flight/uncaged outside time
-Protection from hazards including but not limited to escape, pets, predators, fumes and toxins
-Companionship- lots of your time or another bird's (not home alone)
-Avian vet care if sick or injured
-Compassionate, healthy care that provides for the bird's nutritional (including lighting), physical and emotional well-being
-No breeding, birth control if bird has a mate (real eggs replaced with fakes which we provide)
-A forever home (through sickness and health, for better or worse) with a pet-care plan in place should something happen to you
-No selling, sporting or business use of birds
-Return to Palomacy if unable to keep the bird (This is not desired- we expect that you are providing a forever home!)
