Walter's Story...
Walter was found in July as a stray in the middle of the highway, mourning the loss of another dog that had passed away from being struck by a vehicle. Walter was severly matted, infested with fleas/ticks and had two very bad eye injuries. Once pulled into rescue, Walter was bathed/groomed, treated for fleas/ticks and erlichia disease(a treatable tick borne illness), brought up to date on all his vaccines and was seen at the Richmond Eye Specialist where they determined Walter was completely blind from two untreated eye injuries. He currently resides in a foster home where he has a routine, is loved and spoiled and with other dogs/cats. Walter is a sophisticated gentleman who loves just snuggling right up next to you. He can keep himself entertained with toys and loves to scoot around on his back to get that itch...Walter, is good with children, dogs/cats and loves, loves loves his people. He is potty/crate trained and a pretty laid back guy.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Walter, a Colonial Heights Maltese dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Maltese for sale in Colonial Heights, or seeking a Maltese dog from a breeder in Colonial Heights.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Colonial Heights already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Colonial Heights breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Maltese breeders who help with Maltese rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Colonial Heights paves the way for another one to be saved.
