My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you looking for a cute little puppy; a little bundle of fur that that will steal your heart away? If so, you’re in luck! Ruby could be your new little “sweetie pie”! This little girl, born on July 28th, had a rough beginning in life. At just 10 weeks old, and only two pounds, she was diagnosed with a severe heart murmur. Sadly, Ruby’s owner couldn’t afford to have the necessary medical tests and surgery done to evaluate and correct Ruby’s condition, and surrendered her to Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota.

Ruby was evaluated at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Clinic and was found to have a condition called Patent Ductus Arteriosus, (PDA) a condition where the ductus arteriosus, a normal structure in the heart that allows blood to by-pass the puppy’s lungs before birth, fails to close after birth. Without surgery, Ruby would soon die. But the prognosis was excellent, and she had surgery to correct the problem. Ruby came through it with flying colors and should lead a normal, active, long life. But she will need to have a follow up appointment late in January, 2015 at the University of Minnesota Veterinary Clinic. At that time, Ruby’s foster mom will accompany the adoptive parent(s) to the clinic.

Ruby is just beginning her potty training regimen and is doing well so far. She loves to play with toys, loves chew sticks and loves the companionship of her foster sisters. Ruby would do best in a family with someone home most of the day; ready to commit to the responsibilities of a new puppy and one without small children.

Ruby is healthy, up to date on vaccinations, is on heart worm preventative, and is micro chipped. Ruby’s adopters must agree to have her spayed before the age of six months (by January 28, 2015) as stated in her adoption contract. Her adoption fee is $420.00 plus sales tax of $30.56. In addition, a spay deposit of $150.00 is required at the time of adoption, which will be refunded upon proof of having her spayed. Ruby’s foster mom would like her to live in the Twin Cities area so she can see her once in a while. She would also like Ruby and her new family to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion which is held each year on the third weekend in June.

Before contacting Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota regarding any dog, please thoroughly read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html first to help you understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. You will also find an online adoption application there.
