My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This female Blue Great Dane was rescued by the FFGDR foster family. She was found as a stray and had no name. It was obvious that she was a recent momma, but no puppies were with her.

She is approximately 4 years old.

Her foster family named her “Lovey” and it turned out her name fits her personality very well. Lovey is a fabulous, loving dog who dearly loves children!

She likes man, woman or child. She also likes dogs. It is unknown about cats (foster family doesn’t have one). It is strongly suggested that Lovey have a canine sibling.

She is crate trained, however, she is trustworthy in free-reign. She often chooses to sleep in her ginormous crate.

She will not get on the furniture unless you give her permission.

She does NOT require firm/harsh command and/or harsh discipline. A soft “no” command suffices as she usually does not repeat her mistake for a long period of time (i.e. jumps on bed, enters the garden bed, etc). After a long period of time, she might test you and will obey with a soft “no” command.

She does not steal shoes, socks, toys, etc.

She has never damaged any of the foster family’s property, during free-range of the house (while family’s out of the house).

She has no prey drive.

She is not food aggressive.

She is not a jumper.

She is a very calm dog.

She is a very loving dog who craves lovings from her people, especially children. She will beg for love, but will walk away if you say no.

She loves to run (aka zoom) around the back yard, especially with a canine sibling as well as play ball or tag with children.

She is not moody like some bitches (female dogs).

She tolerates well in taking a shower (bathing).

She loves to go for walks. She will pull, but eventually will stroll with the walker.

She typically (not always) obeys basic commands. She is both food and/or affection motivated during basic training. She even obeys children’s commands!

When she was rescued, she was severely underweight and very dirty. Since then, she has been slowly but surely gaining weight. Unfortunately, she had a parasite and tapeworm which helped delayed Lovey from gaining weight quickly. She is now free of the parasite and tapeworm and completed her medical treatment. Her weight gain is now accelerating and is looking fantastic. Lovey’s health is doing very well. She will be spayed before adoption.

Lovey’s foster family says that she’s the best female foster they’ve ever had. Her foster family came very close to adopting her. Sadly, her foster family knows there are many Great Danes who are badly in need of being rescued. They’ve decided to continue on as foster family and let Lovey go to a forever family.

This fabulous Lovey must go to a forever family with children and/or youths. She needs and wants to be with children who not only plays with her, but also play dress up. At least one canine sibling would be appreciated by Lovey.

Lovey will be spayed soon and will be available for adoption in mid to late November 2014.
