My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My foster mom calls me Callie; I'm happy to have an easy-going, sweet-sounding name after five and a half years of only being a number at a puppy mill. You probably know about mills; I only knew life inside a small, dirty cage. I was constantly bred for litters of puppies. My foster mom thinks I probably observed a lot of not very nice things; I certainly didn't know life was going to get about a thousand times better when Chicago English Bulldog Rescue took me into their loving arms. I have a lot to learn about just being...being a beloved member of the family, playing with toys, enjoying the outdoors.

Since my rescue, I've gotten a whole "make over" including a spay and all my vaccines. I came in with bad ear infections and a UTI as well as crusty dry eyes. My paws were really discolored and "splayed" from being in a crate. Everything is fixed up; I'll only need eye ointment/drops probably for the rest of my life but I'm such a good patient, I don't mind at all. I don't even mind getting my face washed and soaking in the bathtub. I'm a little on the skinny side but I'm sure going to have fun putting on a little healthy weight so my beautiful bulldog body matches my remarkable (and perfect, my foster mom says) bulldog noggin. I'm working on the whole house-breaking thing; heck, I didn't even know what a house was a few weeks back. I'm a pretty quick learner. I walk on my leash like the pretty girl I am, but honestly, I don't really like long walks. Where's that blanket again?

I don't know if she's biased or just silly over me, but my foster mom says I'm one of the sweetest and quietest bulldogs she's ever known. I may know how to bark, but I haven't felt the need to voice my opinion quite yet. I still have a crate but the door is always open, so I can come and go as I please. I love, love, love laying on soft blankets (who knew blankets were so great?!). Foster mom has put some toys around me but I'm not that interested yet.

Perhaps there were cats at my other life; I'm sure not very interested in my foster feline brothers so I'm totally fine with cats. I have a foster bulldog sister and we interact a little but I haven't really decided if I'm a player or just a lover. I have absolutely, definitely decided that I was born to lean into the laps of humans that love me. My big head was just made to lay in laps. At this point, I feel more comfortable laying low (literally) rather than jumping up to greet life. Foster mom says my eyes are very deep and expressive; I'm still just taking it all in.

So far, I'm playing it slow and easy. I'll need to figure out if I want to be an only dog or if I might come out of my shell a bit more with another dog (as long as the other dog isn't too dominant; gotta keep the "slow and easy" vibe going). Foster mom says I'm going to make someone's life so sweet just by being Callie.
