My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"George" is an 8-yo male GSD who is a great family dog. George likes to be around people and follows his primary caretaker from room to room. He is great with the two children (ages 9 & 12 yrs) that he lives with. He is also friendly with visitors to his home. George is good with other dogs, and lives harmoniously with an active 7-yo female GSD mix, who he likes to playfully chase. We don't know how George is with cats, so I will only consider a home without cats for him. George is a good-size GSD, weighing about 75 lbs.

George is very well behaved inside the house, and can be left inside for several hours without any problems. He is great on leash, and does not pull when he sees other dogs. His foster caretaker says that George is one of the easiest large dogs she's ever walked! George often exhibits playful behaviors more typical of a younger dog. He likes to chase after the broom or mop as if it's a toy, and he likes to bite the water stream from a hose directed right at him!

George does not like to be left outside when people are home, and will whine for about 5 minutes on the occasions that is necessary. He is not too responsive to commands, especially when called to come. It's likely that George's hearing is not very good, but it does not seem to adversely affect him in any other way.

Overall, George is a really sweet, playful but mellow dog. He would do well in most homes where his people are home most of the time.

GSRSV rescued George from the Tracy shelter on 10-23-14, literally his last day before he was to be euthanized. His former owner apparently had a stroke, and had requested that the shelter pick him up. The shelter was unable to do that, and shortly thereafter, received word that a male GSD was wandering around George's owner's neighborhood--apparently, George's owner turned him loose! Animal control came and brought George to the shelter on 10-8-14.

George is in a foster home in Fair Oaks . His adoption fee is $150.
