My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello! My name is Chloe and I am a very sweet 1 1/2 yr. old, 19 lb. beagle that was found as a stray on a busy street in New Jersey and rescued by Penny Angels. I was happy to be rescued, but that happiness momentarily faded when I found out that I have a congenital heart defect called pulmonic stenosis. With this condition, there is an obstruction to blood flow from my heart to my lungs. I had some tests done and it looks like surgery will offer me the best chance at living a healthy life. The surgery, Balloon Valvuloplasty, was scheduled for Dec. 3, 2014, but unfortunately it had to be postponed because I had pneumonia and needed to be on antibiotics for a month. On Dec. 10, I had a consult with a cardiologist at the Ryan Veterinary Hospital at the University of Penn. in Philadelphia, PA, and my new surgery date at that facility was scheduled for January 6, 2015, but it was postponed, too, because I still had pneumonia. I remained on antibiotics for several more weeks and went to the vet for another chest x-ray on Jan. 29.

UPDATE: I was cleared for surgery on Feb. 4, 2015 and came through it with no complications! I was kept overnight at the Univ. of Penn and then transported back to PABR on Feb. 5. I have sutures in my neck that will need to be removed in about 10 days, and I will need a follow-up exam with my cardiologist in the beginning of March to see if I am still doing well. The procedure cost around $3500 and Penny Angels was able to raise the funds for my surgery and pre-surgery care through the kindness of our supporters! Thank you so much!!

I am not available for adoption right now, but you can still let Penny Angels know if you are interested in adopting me after I have recovered from my surgery. If everything goes well at my next vet appt., I will need to be scheduled for another surgery so that I can be spayed. As of 12-18-14, $1740.61 had been spent on my medical care. This amount went toward consults with cardiologists, medications to lower my blood pressure and to treat my pneumonia, and diagnostic tests which included x-rays and echocardiograms. My expenses to date increased to around $5500 after my surgery.
