My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter! Spike, at only 4 weeks old and almost 2 lbs (is estimated to be full grown at about 10 - 12 lbs), was facing the end of his life before it ever began. Farfel's Texas rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this brand new puppy...they lovingly rescued Spike (and his 5 siblings!). Spike is starting out with great energy. The excellent results of his vetting, baby temperament-testing..and of course his cottony coat and adorable puppy face didn't hurt - resulted in a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life.
Spike is appropriately playful and inquisitive for his young age. He appears to be so smart...very typical of the cross of a these small Terriers. He's bright and so loving...clearly having no memory of his scary start. Since Spike is just a baby, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. Spike has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion - he would form firm bonds with his family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through Puppy Socialization Class followed by group Obedience Classes. It does take a bit of time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the world with appropriate behavior.
We're open to Spike finding his forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a puppy. Spike seems to love children as well but we would prefer to place him in a home with older kids (10+) that can participate in a gentle yet consistent training regiment. Spike will be up to date on his vetting, however is considered to be too young to neuter. Farfel's will cover the neutering costs as well as any further vaccinations/microchip necessary at our vet in Denver.
Spike is an adorable combination of some none shedding breeds, and therefore seems to be a non-shedding pup. Due to his young age, however, we don't feel we can guarantee his suitability for an individual with severe allergy challenges.
Spike will arrive on transport in Denver in mid - late October. If interested in this snuggly and sweet puppy, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
