My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chevy is a very special one-year-old lab/hound mix who also has special needs. He came to SparKy when his severe allergies proved to be more of a financial burden than his previous home could continue to support. During the worst of his condition, it was even believed that he might have to be euthanized in order to end his suffering. Fortunately, a foster and SparKy stepped in to try to figure something out to give him another chance.

Chevy improved quickly in his foster home and we initially believed that with the right food, he would be able to maintain his progress. Unfortunately, we have learned that this isn't quite the case. He is potentially going to need a bit more than just an inside home and a dietary change to continue getting better.

Chevy is sensitive to many environmental allergens which include dust mites, molds, and even human dander. He also has food allergies and is currently on a home prepared diet to attempt to really narrow down which foods work best for him. (He has been allergy tested, but these tests aren't always accurate when it comes to food.) There is a good chance that in the future he may require medication or allergy shots and he will always need a special diet.

Aside from his allergies, Chevy is an amazing dog. He does well with children, other dogs, and even cats. He is being fostered by a trainer who believes that he could someday be a wonderful therapy dog as he learns very quickly and has a heart of gold. Chevy knows how to sit, lie down, stay, retrieve, and more. He also rides beautifully in the car and is the best snuggler in town. In exchange for a family who would be dedicated and attentive to his needs, he would be sure to provide a lifetime of love and loyalty.
