'Almost Home... Until They Are All Home For Good'

Adult Female Black and White Domestic Shorthair

Meet Amelia. Amelia was left outside Almost Home with her 4 babies in the freezing cold. She is very scared here and will need a little time to warm up to you. She is current on her vaccinations except rabies and is ready for her forever home. Adopt Amelia today and make her apart of your family. UPDATE: Hi my name is Amelia. Just a few months ago I had tested positive for FIV. After being isolated for about a month I got a more accurate test done and came back NEGATIVE! Now I am FIV free and ready to go home any day. I love other cats and any other animals. I am not that fond of humans because I don't trust them. You can pet me, but I'm not really happy about it. I just need someone to work with me because I have been getting better and better now that the staff can spend time with me. I would do best in a home with another cat where my owner knows it will take sometime for me to warm up. I don't want to spend the rest of my life here at the shelter so if you are willing to put some time into me please adopted me I promise I will try to be good and get along! UPDATE: Amelia is getting better every day and now sometimes even puts her ears up while hanging out with the human at the front desk. All this girl needs is someone who will show her how to be loved!

Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment.

About Almost Home HSNCI

About Our Shelter...

The Humane Society of North Central Iowa is a non-profit, no-kill shelter serving North Central Iowa. We stand for humane treatment of animals and spaying and neutering pets.

We rely heavily on volunteers to help us with the daily cleaning, socialization, and walking the dogs. We also need volunteers to help with our fundraising events. If you would like to help stop in and fill out a volunteer application, or download our volunteer application on our website.

Due to time contraints we are not able to keep all adoptable pets online at all times. It's a lot of work, and the most important thing is to take care of the animal's physical needs!! If you want to see more of our adoptable pets come visit them in person. You can learn more about us, visit our website www.almosthomeiowa.org

Our Adoption Process...

To adopt a pet we ask that you come and meet the animals we have for adoption. The animals listed here are just a few of our available animals. When you find one that you are interested in you may fill out an adoption application. Upon approval, you can take your new friend home today!

The adoption fees are $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats. These prices are subject to change.

We require a $50 deposit on all un-altered animals and we will return your deposit to you once your animal has been altered. It is Iowa Law that all pets adopted from shelters are to be spayed/neutered.

All animals adopted from the Humane Society of North Central Iowa will receive a free health exam from a number of veterinarians in the area. The free health exam must be done within one week of adoption. In the case that your veterinarian feels that the pet you adopted is not in good health, you may return the animal for a full refund within the first days.

Please note, we do not adopt animals that are intended to be outside pets only. Our animals are to be adopted as household companions and kept as such, as stated in our adoption contract.

We reserve the right to refuse adoptions.
